In the book In My Enemy's House by Carol Matas, Marisa is a Polish Jew. She has blonde hair and blue eyes that make it easy for her to pass as a Christian. When the Nazis take most of her family, she has no other choice but to flee with what remaining family she has left. Marisa is making her way slowly across Poland, trying to feed her siblings without starving. She gets the opportunity to use the papers of a Polish girl and disguise herself as a Polish worker as a desperate attempt to survive Germany. Marisa finds herself working for the Reymanns, who treat her respectfully and starts to feel safe. She is hiding in plain sight in her enemy's house. But Marisa gets moved to Berlin, where bombs drop daily and she is no longer treated kindly. Marisa is separated from her only family left and no longer feels safe. How can she survive?
