A note from Dr. Mondloch
Greetings, Collins families,
We are off to a great start this year! It has been a joy working with your students. Thank you for your great participation in our Back-to-School night. We were thrilled to have around 450 visitors that night. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The last time we surveyed parents, there was a preference for an event after school started, however we also heard from parents who preferred a before school Meet and Greet instead. Please let your teacher or the office know if you have a preference.
We had our first in-person all-school assembly in 2 1/2 years last week, and our students did an excellent job following the assembly expectations. We are so proud of them! This week, we will have our first CHAMPs Awards Assembly. Two students from each classroom will be selected for the category of following "The Four Bes", our guidelines for success. When your child is chosen, you will receive a letter that includes an invitation to our assembly. With that letter will be very specific parking directions—we hope to be able to accommodate all the families who are able to join us. Please follow those parking directions carefully to help us meet that goal.
Last week we re- launched our “Pick-of-the-Pack” awards. Each day ten adults get to pick one student to receive the award for following the Four BEs or for going above and beyond in some way (effort, growth, helping, etc.) Students who receive a Pick of the Pack award get a positive call home from the principal, a treat (rainbow scratch-card or Pick of the Pack bracelet) and they are in the running for a special celebration when we get 10 students in a row on our board for those 10 students.
These are just a couple of ways we like to recognize students. We also have ‘Lunch with the principal,’ as you will see below, 'Bee Slips' and Teachermon cards for students who earn five Bee Slips. Teachers may have additional recognition programs. We believe that it is essential to notice and celebrate when students are making good choices.
Please keep us informed when we can be of service and reach out when you have questions and suggestions. Your voice matters to us! Take good care.
Best regards,
Barb

Dismissal
Please help us make parent pick-up as smooth and quick as possible:
Pull to curb near your sign (based on first letter of student’s last name).
If siblings have different last names, use youngest sibling’s last name to load together.
No loading in left lane. Please try to avoid blocking left lane.
Stay in your car unless helping student load on driver’s side.
Please be patient and courteous and let drivers out.
Thank you for helping keep our dismissal safe and efficient!
Have you heard about Right at School?
Franklin Pierce Schools has partnered with the YMCA of Pierce County to offer before and afterschool care for several years. Due to limited capacity, the YMCA is no longer able to offer childcare to support families at Collins Elementary. Right at Schools launched a new before and afterschool program at Collins Elementary. To learn more, visit www.rightatschool.com.
Right at School will have a booth at Back-to-School night!

Sexual Health Education Opportunity for Grades 4 and 5 families
WA PREP for Healthy Youth knows that strong parent/caregiver engagement is a key component of young people’s health, safety, and well-being. This is true in every area of their lives, including Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) implementation. WA PREP is recruiting parents/caregivers and young people to review eLearning micro-modules. All pilot participants will be paid for their time. These modules will focus on engaging, age-appropriate content and supports to guide conversations with young people around CSHE-related topics.
This work will take place virtually in mid-September. If you are interested in this opportunity or have questions about the process, please email WA PREP director Christine Hagstrom, at chagstrom@cardeaservices.org.
IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS
SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Collins is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!
EARLY PARENT PICK-UP If you need to pick your student up early, we ask that students be picked up no later than 3:45 due to our end of the day congestion. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).
UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3400.
