MIDDLE SCHOOL
Riding on skateboards and other recreational vehicles are not allowed on campus. Students should not be hanging out in areas where cars are entering and exiting . In addition, students who are waiting for pick up should be in the pick up area by the back field. Students should only be on campus after school if they are waiting for pick up, part of a school club, are in school sports, receiving tutoring or completing classwork inside the classrooms. This applies to morning drop off as well. Students should be dropped off in the same area as pick-up, towards the back of the school. If you have any questions, please contact us via email.

Please make sure you have your students permission slips signed and money turned in before they leave Wednesday morning. You may bring in supplies from the supply list and your child’s camping gear starting Monday October 24th. Please reach out to Middle School staff via email if you have any questions.
This week, 7th graders caught up on their work and got to visit the Hayward Public Library as well as the Dios De Los Muertos exhibit at Sun Gallery while 8th graders were at Slide Ranch. 8th graders will attend the Sun Gallery exhibit next week Friday when the 7th graders are at Slide Ranch.

UC Berkeley-Mini U
The Society of Women Engineers at UC Berkeley is once again hosting Mini University, a free program that provides high school students in the Bay Area the opportunity to learn more about majors and careers in engineering through hands-on engineering activities, professors talks, and interactions with Berkeley engineering students and organizations. This program would be beneficial for students who may be considering a major or career in the STEM fields, but have not had significant exposure to science or engineering outside of the classroom.
For Fall 2022, Mini University will be held in-person on Wednesday, November 16th! Expect a day full of fun and interactive activities to learn about what being a Berkeley Engineer is all about! Our program is planning to run from 8am to 3:30pm on the 16th. Applications will be open from now until Friday, October 28th, 11:59 PM PT, and students of all genders are welcome to apply. We especially encourage students from first-generation, low-income, and/or minority backgrounds to apply (this includes Asian).
If you think your students would be interested in participating please have your student email Ms. Rodriguez at araceli@haywardtwinoaks.org.

Stay at Home if Sick / COVID Exposure
If a student is feeling sick, or has any of the exposure situations or symptoms listed on the self screening reference sheet, please test before coming to school.
If symptoms are consistent with COVID-19, the individual should not return to school until they meet the following criteria:
- 24 hours have passed since the resolution of the fever without fever-reducing medications and
- Other symptoms have improved and
- They have documentation of a negative COVID test OR a healthcare provider has provided documentation that the symptoms are typical of their underlying chronic condition (e.g., allergies or asthma) OR a healthcare provider has confirmed and provided documentation of an alternative named diagnosis (e.g., Streptococcal pharyngitis, Coxsackie virus), OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset.
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, individuals who have been exposed to that individual as a “close contact” will be notified and provided with quarantine instructions that meet county and state guidelines.
We highly encourage all our community members to obtain the COVID-19 vaccination and booster they are available for their age group.
Health and Safety Measures
We continue to closely follow the guidance of the California Department of Public Health, Alameda County Department of Public Health, and Alameda County Office of Education to ensure our students have a healthy and safe space to learn. This information is outlined in the Alameda County School Reopening guidance document.
More information will be provided as released by the local authorities, but at this time we do know families can expect:
Self-Screening Before Coming to School is required for all students and staff. The screening reference sheet is here. If any symptoms are present, please test for Covid.
Face Coverings will be highly recommended but not required for all students and staff while indoors unless eating/drinking. Students do not need to wear a mask for Outdoor Activities.
Ventilation enhancements added previously will continue. These are enhanced ventilation systems throughout the building with the use of HEPA filtration systems and fans.
Hand Washing will be encouraged throughout the day using either soap and water or hand sanitizer.
Lunch and Snack will require students to remove their face coverings. We added additional seating at lunch to increase the spacing between students and additional ventilation to the space. Cleaning procedures that were implemented previously will continue including additional wiping down of high touch areas and the use of EPA approved products.
