Wild Wednesday
Learning Extensions
"I SPY"
We can apply our learning to observations in the outdoors. On a walk with a trusted adventure partner, play "I Spy," but in this version, provide hints with clues that describe a relationship between organisms. For example, you might say, "I spy an organism on a branch that has wings. This organism helps with pollination."
Writing On Wild Wednesday
As a writing extension, write about a caregiver relationship that you are connected to. Do you provide care for a pet? Does a special someone, or do many people provide care for you? Write about how you can observe interdependence in your family OR write a letter to someone you depend on. Tell them what you are grateful for and all the ways they support you.
Math On Wild Wednesday
Create a word problem that tells the story of a relationship in nature. Your word problem can talk about the total number of flowers a bee pollinates in a day, or it can describe how many pieces of fruit fall to the ground and begin to decompose. Have another idea? Go for it! Make sure to draw an illustration to match your word problem and be sure to include a number sentence.
(Example: There were 15 pieces of fruit on the tree. 6 fell and began to decompose. How many pieces of fruit are still hanging from the tree? 15-6=9)
MORE FUN!
Want some additional fun?
ACT IT OUT!
Grab some stuffed animals, siblings or get outside with your adventure partner. Pretend to recreate a relationship that can be found in nature.
Cooking & Food
People are also dependent on the environment. While diets vary, people can eat different animal products and a variety of plants, fruits, seeds and vegetables to name a few. Build a plate of food and explain the ways you can obtain the different items on your plate from the environment.
Have a WILD time, Roadrunners!
