Hybrid Reminders

It was decided on Friday August 28th that we will continue in the Hybrid model for our instructional delivery until Friday September 18th. I have put a couple of reminders regarding what the role of teachers, students, and families will be while we use the hybrid model for our instructional delivery model across the district.

  • Send home independent work for students that are not scheduled for face to face instruction
  • Provide feedback on the work submitted and track work completion for attendance purposes on virtual days.

  • Set up scheduled work times for your child to complete the independent work that is assigned by their teacher through Seesaw on their virtual learning days
  • Make sure that when your child returns to school for face to face instruction they return with their iPad charged. Chargers can stay at home and will be turned back in at the end of the year.
  • Be sure your child has completed all the assignments assigned through Seesaw on their virtual learning days. Completed work is what we are using to determine attendance for students on their virtual days. It will be the expectation that all work is submitted prior to students returning to face to face instruction at the very latest. We would ask families to do the best they can in getting it completed within 24 hours of it being assigned.

  • Complete work that is assigned in Seesaw for the virtual days and submit it.
  • Bring iPads to and from school. Be sure they have a full charge.

Update from lifetouch regarding 19-20 Ekstrand Yearbooks

Dear Families,

Please see message below from Lifetouch regarding 19-20 Ekstrand Yearbooks. We since have received communication from them that yearbooks have been shipped. We will keep everyone notified when they arrive.

Yearbooks are a tradition for schools throughout the US and Canada. At Lifetouch, we are humbled to be a part of providing that tradition. We know how important yearbooks are - especially in times like these.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge this year’s delayed yearbook delivery is not what you, as our customers expect, nor deserve, from Lifetouch.

We want you to be aware that our primary yearbook production facilities are located in some of the states that are being hardest hit by the pandemic. We have prioritized the safety of our employees; and we are following all state and local health guidelines to create a safe working environment. Social distancing requirements mean that there are fewer people available to work at any given time. These changes have impacted our production schedule in meaningful ways.

We realize this has created a lot of frustration since we are currently unable to provide an estimated delivery time frame for your school’s yearbook. Please know our teams are doing everything possible to get your yearbook to you. Shipping is monitored daily. As soon as your yearbook ships, your school will receive tracking information so they can arrange to distribute the yearbooks to the students and families in a manner that is best suited for everyone’s safety.

As we navigate COVID-19, our intent is to provide you with a yearbook that your student will treasure for a lifetime. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time together.

Dear Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Tanya Glennon and I am the new K-3 Elementary School Counselor. I am so excited to be part of the Ekstrand family; already it is so apparent how close-knit and welcoming the DeWitt community is, I feel very lucky to be part of it!

I have 8 years combined school counseling experience at the elementary level. What I love most about the elementary level is the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child.

As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. Many times I get puzzled looks when I say I provide career development at the elementary level, but it is never too early for children to be exposed to the opportunities their futures will hold! I look forward to offering support to the Ekstrand students, staff, families, and community. I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom counseling lessons including the Second Step curriculum, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Ekstrand students.

You may have noticed above that I put in bold and underlined the word, “all” students. Sometimes when the term “counselor” is heard, some may perceive that a counselor may only work with a select few students in a 1:1 counseling capacity, but that is not the case! School Counseling programs reach and meet the needs of all students in a school through many various ways, including those listed above. I am here to advocate for all students. If you ever have any questions or concerns, or do not wish to have your child participate in these school counseling services, please do not hesitate to call (563) 659-4763 or email me tanya.glennon@cd-csd.org at any time.

I am so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year!

All the best,

Ms. Glennon

K-3 School Counselor
