PARENT FEEDBACK NEEDED:
GUSD hosted a LCAP Town Hall Webinar on 3/21/23 The topic was about Budget and the presenter for the webinar was Ms. Santha Rajiv, GUSD Chief Financial Officer.
What is the LCAP?
Every year, school districts in California are required to prepare a three-year public plan known as an LCAP (pronounced EL-cap). The LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) officially defines the district's goals and priorities.
The webinar was recorded and here is the link:
GUSD LCAP Town Hall - Webinar - March 21, 2023
We ask you to watch at home and provide us information and feedback that will help our school and the Glendale Unified School District shape and formulate our 2023 - 2024 LCAP.
There is a live and active feedback form using ThoughtExchange. Please share your thoughts here (use the QR code below):

CAL KIDS SAVINGS ACCOUNTS
The State of California has a new program called CalKIDS that automatically creates college savings accounts for eligible low-income public school students enrolled in first through 12th grade. CalKIDS will deposit between $500 to $1500 in each CalKIDS account and eligible students will be able to use this money for qualified expenses when they enroll at an eligible education institution.

PTA ASSOCIATION MEETING - APRIL 6 AT 7 PM
Our next Association meeting is Thursday, April 6th. We will be having our amazing Mindfulness Teacher - Lauren Poncefranco present about the importance and value of mindfulness after the business portion of our meeting concludes. Please submit any school volunteer hours through this form.
These are PROJECTED hours to the end of the school year (6th grade activities, teacher appreciation week, end of year class activities, etc.) An estimate is fine, it does not have to be exact. Anything that you do for our school can be counted as volunteer hours. Hours must be submitted by Friday, April 7, 2023.
Here is an explanation from the state PTA website as to why we collect the number of volunteer hours: "The California State PTA commissions and committees use the information as guidelines for review and revision of programs, publications, projects, and leadership training. The volunteer hour numbers are used to raise the awareness of legislators, school, and community personnel."

Ramadan is the Arabic name for the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and runs from March 22 - April 20.
It is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims and is marked by a period of fasting, considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan falls on a different date every year, due to the cycles of the moon.
If you want to wish someone well, you can say "Ramadan Mubarak", which means "Blessed Ramadan", or "Ramadan Kareem", which translates as "Generous Ramadan".
Eid takes place at the end of Ramadan. The name "Eid al-Fitr" translates as "the festival of the breaking of the fast". Like the beginning of Ramadan, Eid begins with the first sighting of the new moon.
Muslim countries are spread across a large geographical area, from Indonesia to Morocco, meaning that some Muslims may see the new moon earlier than others.
"Traditionally, Makkah [Mecca in Saudi Arabia] was the centre of sighting the moon," says Prof Muhammad Abdel Haleem, from the Centre of Islamic Studies at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies)."
