The Bobcat
Week of September 24, 2018
Vision: Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. R's Desk
Bobcat Nation,
We are more than halfway through the end of the 1st Six Weeks. Teachers, please review your failure list. Contact should be made with any parent whose child received a grade lower than a 70 [as per policy]. Your contact log should mirror your failure list.
NOTE: The end of the 1st Six Weeks is Thursday, October 4, 2018. Please ensure that you have the minimum number of grades.
"The best way to control our destiny is to create it." A Blueprint to Success According to Mr. R.
- Have the end in mind. What will students gain from having you as a teacher?
- Know your audience and connect your lesson with your students.
- Plan out entire year [YAG].
- Create benchmarks for each marking period.
- Collaborate with colleagues.
- Set high expectations from day 1 [academic and behavior].
- Create intervention plan for yourself and students. "Don't tell me all students can learn; tell me what you will do when they don't."
- Spiral lessons and target hot-spots.
- Monitor student progress [weekly].
- Tutor students and be accessible.
- Show zero movies during school year. The best teacher is the teacher not a DVD.
- Communicate with parents.
- Attend student events and activities [build those relationships].
- Display student work in classroom.
- Student-created word walls are better than teacher-created.
- Students should express themselves in written form.
- Create opportunities for student collaboration.
- Show up every day [teacher attendance is crucial].
- Be passionate about student success not just your content.
- Create an environment where the teacher becomes the learner and the students become the teachers.
