News from the Eagle Lake Elementary Media Center

Tech Thursdays (3:00pm-4:00pm) 2013 - 2014

There seems to have been a lot of new technology coming our way this summer and fall. iPads and apps(Marti will be training us), Google Drive, Google Sites Webpages, Destiny Quest App(to see our libraries books), Mackin Via (online ebooks) and Via App (including Tumblebooks), QR Codes, Twitter, Learn 360 updates, Smore (newsletter Web Page that you can now print), Edmodo, Moodle, Youtube, Screencast-o-matic and the list goes on and on. It is an exciting time, but we need to help each other learn these tools to engage our students. Here is a chance for you to take a few minutes to learn about a new technology tool or learn a new feature of a tech tool that you are already familiar with.

This is what I have in mind for Tech Thursdays. Please let me know if you have other ideas. Thank you.

Thursday, December 12 - ipad Training (Marti)

Thursday, January 9th - ipad Training (Marti)

Thursday, January 16th - Splashtop & AirPlay - (Shelly)

Splashtop - This is a $10 iPad App that displays your computer onto your ipad. Now, you can walk around the room and use it to change things on your computer&smartboard and not be stuck to the front of the room. We can purchase this for you if you think that you will use it. (It also needs the free program Splashtop Streamer installed onto your computer and you need to set up a free Splashtop Account.)

Airplay - This is built into your ipads. It needs to have an application called Airserver installed (by Jeremy) onto your computer to work. You can show apps on your ipad to your whole class on the smartboard. No cost to this one. It just needs to be set up.

Thursday, January 30th- Google Drive - Creating new docs, uploading and organizing in Google Drive.

Thursday, February 13th - ipad Training (Marti)

Thursday, February 20th - Mackin Via App & Online ebooks(including our own Tumblebooks Subscription online and for ipads) & Destiny Quest App. Students can view these at school or at home, or on the ipad. You can have your whole group reading the same book on the computer at the same time. Or, students can each choose their own to read. There are many levels to choose from. The books are linked under the Eagle Lake Media Website and also on the app, Via.

One More Suggestion for a Read Aloud!

Don't forget about the Humphrey series by Betty Birney. These books are told from the point of view of Humphrey the hamster who is the class pet. The first title is The World According to Humphrey.
