Dear Jessie Thackrey Families,
We have now completed our third week of school, our Back to School Night and have announced that we are planning a return to some face to face schooling. We are working hard to plan what is not only best for kids but safe for all school members--children, teachers, & therapists. We will announce our plan within the next 2 weeks. We may need to make some class assignment changes, given our limited space, but I will keep that at a minimum. Additionally, please remember that the district will regularly monitor health conditions based on the metrics presented last Thursday evening. While we are happy to have our students return, we all must remain flexible in our thinking and with our plans, as the virus is what is driving our lives right now. We continue to ask that you practice good mitigation practices, including wearing masks, frequently washing hands, and limiting your exposure to others. While we do understand that wearing a mask might be difficult for some of our students, it will be a part of our instruction each day when face to face. We will help to build stamina in wearing a mask, as it protects EVERYONE. We will be in touch so that you can let us know your plans for your child/children.
There are a few updates this week!
Sincerely,
Marie

For issues related to your internet service at home, please contact your internet service provider. With multiple people in each home participating in video conferences and working and learning online, it may be time to reassess your internet services. If you wish to limit your child’s use of the internet at home, for example, block gaming, please check with your internet service provider. Many of them provide options for blocking websites or categories of websites. For instance, Verizon provides information on Parent Control at
https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/security/parental-controls and Cox provides information at https://www.cox.com/residential/articles/parents-ultimate-guide-parental-controls.html
If your child is eligible for free or reduced-price meals, FCCPS can assist you with ensuring that your child has internet access to complete their school work. Please contact the social worker at your child’s school.
If you wish not to have your child’s video seen, please ensure that your child is not showing their video camera. Each time a child navigates to a conference, they only are asked to select sound options (listen or Mic). They have to opt-in to share their web camera as it is off by default. Parents who do not want their child’s video seen by others may also wish to put a Post-it® note (please do not use tape or other sticky covering) over the camera if they are not sure that their child is selecting not to allow video. Action disabling video access is required by parents even if a parent has previously opted out of the media release at the time they registered their student for school.Remember Your Flu Shot!
