Restart Updates
We are working furiously on building student schedules. We should be able to release them by the middle of next week. Please note that because of the nature of our scheduling challenges this year, we will not be able to take schedule change requests. Of course if your student's schedule has an error (i.e. they are missing a core class or have the same class twice), we will make sure to correct it.
In order to create opportunities for collaboration and curriculum alignment between our remote and in-person teaching teams, our remote teachers will create and post asynchronous learning on Fridays for our 100% remote students. We will ask students to interact with video instruction and complete assignments on their own, following their remote learning "bell schedule".
Thursday, August 20 Virtual Back~to~School Night
- Important Everitt Information like drop off routes, attendance procedures, outdoor lab information, etc.
- How to support your student academically both in an in~person and remote learning environment.
- Back~to~School Night presentations from each teacher which includes an introduction to them, their expectations for students, and how you can support your student's success in their class.

A word from our music department
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year! The music team has spent our summer working hard to prepare for a safe return to music making. That being said, music will likely look a little different this year.
By now you have likely seen the new schedule for both hybrid and remote learning. We will be offering electives on a quarterly basis with one elective per quarter which equals to about 9 weeks. This will allow for students to have fewer classes and therefore less exposure each day and maintain choice to explore the amazing elective programs Everitt has to offer. Music electives are typically offered for a whole year to develop the musicianship of the student, but strange times mean we will have to adjust.
Orchestra students will have the opportunity to play their instruments in person while masked and distanced as much as possible in the classroom. Beginning orchestra curriculum will be shortened to one quarter covering basic technique and note reading. 6th grade students who had elementary orchestra should sign up for beginning orchestra.
The nature of covid 19 makes band and choir trickier as research is showing that playing wind instruments and singing are far riskier than any other activity students will be engaged in during the day. Because more research is needed about playing and singing, more information is needed about our particular indoor conditions, and the quarterly schedule, band and choir will focus on ensemble and reading skills through instruments that do not require air. Choir will be learning these skills with ukuleles and band with percussion instruments.
That being said, ALL music students who currently play an instrument or are interested in developing their voice are invited to participate in our AMAZING virtual opportunity outside the school day to receive private and small group instruction on their instrument. We are committed to maintaining the skills and musicianship we cultivate during normal times at a distance. Students who sign up for virtual band, choir or orchestra will have the opportunity to participate in private lessons, master classes and recitals that focus on technique, tone and artistry through solos similar to what a student would receive in a private studio or a conservatory. This will include great preparation for future opportunities such as All County, All State and auditions for Musical Theater when those opportunities return.
Students do not need to be signed up for an in person music elective to participate in this year long opportunity. Students will also not be required to participate should they be enrolled in a music class in person. All of our 100% remote students will also be invited to this virtual ensemble. This is not for credit, but rather for students to continue their musical journey on their instrument or voice and prepare for when we can play and sing in person safely.
DH/H and DH/H+ Program Updates
With all the ups and downs of COVID trends, the approach and plan for school was in question for everyone. We are excited to be offering in-person education options for all Jeffco students. After working with district leadership and the board of education, we are pleased to offer an early start for your center-based student to get a jump start on how school has changed in the era of COVID, how to safely interact with teachers and friends, and getting back to learning at school.
While Jeffco students are learning remotely from August 24 - September 4, all students who are served in a center-based program are invited to return to school for morning sessions during these two weeks.
General Information:
Dates: August 24-September 4
School Days: Monday through Thursday, mornings only.
Time: 7:20-10:20 each day.
Meals/Water: We are unable to serve meals during these two weeks, though you may send snacks with your child. Please send a full water bottle to school with your child.
Transportation:
If your child receives specialized transportation as part of the IEP, transportation will be arranged. You will be notified of pick up and drop off times by the transportation staff.
COVID Safety:
Please send your child with a masks they are comfortable wearing. Mask will also be available at school. Our staff will be working with all students on how to engage in all the safety precautions (wearing a mask, hand washing). Please let us know if you have concerns about your child wearing a mask. This link (social stories) includes resources that can be used to support these activities at home and in the community.
School Supplies:
Please send your child with their own personal items (not to be shared with others for safety reasons) that include:
- Pencils
- A spiral notebook, or binder with loose-leaf paper,
- The Chromebook and/or FM equipment that was sent home with your student in the spring.
If you chose remote and would like to make an adjustment in your choice, please reach out by Tuesday, August 18th, so we can create a schedule for your child and arrange transportation, if appropriate. We can’t wait to see you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Murray, Ms. Goertz and Ms. Redding
