Comm Corner Week #1
Notes and Weekly Plan from the Communications Dept.
Notes
Great Tweet Example
As you think about your social media strategy and what it is that you want to continue to share with your audience, here's a great example of something you could post.
Principal Communications Monthly Meetings
Please send me an invite within the next week for a day & time each month that would be best for you to meet. If you want to keep the same time as last year, email me that to let me know. (High school... let's change ours due to CIA :) )
Communications Audit
We will continue our communications audits at our next Principal Communications meeting. Along with all of your communication channels, think of something specific that was supposed to be communicated at the end of the year or during the summer.
- What was it?
- How did we get the word out?
- How did it go?
- Did everyone get the message?
In all other areas, we'll look at what communications go out, who is the target audience, who is responsible for the content, who's responsible for the distribution, how is the success measured.
Items to include in your newsletters
A few things have popped up in this first week that would be good items to include in your newsletters:
- Officers stopping in just to say hi. A few elementary parents were concerned when they saw an officer hanging out at the buildings during drop-off. Please remind your parents that we are great partners with our local law enforcement and encourage them to stop by, join us in the morning or afternoon, so that they are more frequent presence for building positive relationships and getting to know our district, not just here when there's trouble. Might be fun to get a picture with the officer and say "thank you to our local law enforcement officer, like Officer xxx, for stopping by and being a great partner with OPS!"... etc.
- Drop-off procedures. People need to slow down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question...Do we need to develop additional signage along our sidewalks to get out curbside? Hand out slips of paper to parents who drop off or pick up in the driving lane? Recruit parents to help us stand outside as volunteers? - Links to the school year calendar on the OPS website
- Instructions on finding events on your website (the calendar feature)
Weekly Newsletters - timing
When do you plan for your newsletter to get to parents? Make sure your newsletter reflects your schedule. If you want them to have it for the weekend, please be sure to get it to me on Friday by 3pm. If you know you won't get it done by then and want it to be a Monday thing, make sure there are no weekend dates or Monday morning announcements. The timing is up to you, but it's important that it does not appear late. I will post newsletters by Friday night if I get them by 3pm, but cannot guarantee they'll be posted until noon Monday if they are received after that date.
