Poverty is a hard situation, as it can make people take desperate measures in order to get out of poverty.

Poverty Anthem

The "Poverty Anthem" describes the struggles and hardships that people in poverty go through, but also that those people are the exact same as anyone else on this planet, stating, "Gold is nothing but a color/ But this color has more value than life/ A color that blinds us/ A collar that binds us/ To a world of pain"

Heal the World by Michael Jackson

"Heal the World" by Michael Jackson was written to encourage poverty to be gone. The chorus states, "Heal The World/ Make It A Better Place/ For You And For Me/ And The Entire Human Race/ There Are People Dying/ If You Care Enough/ For The Living/ Make A Better Place/ For You And For Me". It begs people to help out those that need it most.

“Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.” -Barack Obama

“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.” -Mother Teresa

"We know that a peaceful world cannot long exist, one-third rich and two-thirds hungry."

- Jimmy Carter

The Homeless Hungarian Lottery Winner Who is Giving his Money to Charity

Earlier in the year, a homeless Hungarian alcoholic spent his last few pennies on the lottery and won the £1.7 million jackpot. He used that money to get the help he needed for his alcoholism, and raise awareness towards the growing problem of homelessness and poverty in Hungary. This shows the desperation that those in need may have, and that there is always hope for the less fortunate.

Excerpt: "Andraschek gleefully recalls the moment he learned he had won 636m Hungarian forint (£1.7m), or nearly 500 years' worth of his household's combined income. “As I cycled home, I thought: 'It's over; I don't have to think about where to borrow more money to pay the debts. My life was a constant struggle of plugging holes, and I could only ever do that by creating new ones.”"

Blaming Poverty On The Poor by Josephine DixonBanks

This poem compares poverty to a person that, simply, is just plain evil. This person makes the lives of people hard, and can make some people's lives even worse than it may have been before.
