IMPORTANT NOTICES
Important Note from Mr Rayer - We have received information that some of our pupils have been involved in the latest internet craze of Nec Nominate. Please ensure that you talk to your sons’ about the dangers that arise from participating in this activity, which can lead to serious health damage.
Sporting News - Our Sporting fixtures are constantly being updated, Football fixtures in particular and we have already rearranged some of the matches cancelled. Others may follow. Please check regularly via our sports fixtures on schoolssports.com
YEAR 11 GCSE LINGUISTS - SPEAKING ASSESSMENTS - Well done to those boys who have prepared meticulously; resulting in some pleasing performances in all languages over the past few weeks.
However, we are concerned by the number of boys who have tried to change the date of their exam; claiming that they are not adequately prepared. The date for each speaking assessment is set by the teacher, and boys are given more than several weeks' advance notice of this, so that they can prepare. Except in the case of illness, the date CANNOT be changed, as this is a formal examination (2 speaking tasks which equate to 30% of the final grade).
It is the responsibility of each boy to make certain that he follows the advice of his teacher, and ensures that he is thoroughly prepared for the date set.
If dates are postponed, this inevitably means that valuable teaching time is lost, so consequently this is a situation we are keen to avoid.
Should boys encounter difficulties, they should speak to their language teacher at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you for your continued support. H Stratton - Head of MFL

FROM THE HEAD'S DESK
Despite the weather we have had three very positive events this week. The Year 10 Parents evening proved to be an excellent meeting where advice and views were exchanged ensuring that the pupils can fulfil their potential. The Open Morning again had visitors expressing what outstanding ambassadors their guides were. The PTA meeting aired many interesting views. My thanks go to them for their purchases of a Lathe, Microscopes, Chess sets (and much more) and their enthusiasm to bring about opportunities to the boys. Look out for a new Year 7 + 8 event.
We have had to speak to the Senior pupils about the dangers of Nec Nominate, a stupid drinking challenge that has led to the deaths of some who have been involved. We understand that some of our pupils have been challenged and accepted and I hope you will talk to your sons about the stupidity and danger of this craze.
Congratulations go to Hadley Thomas in Year 10 who has been selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in July 2015. The Scouts will sponsor him £1000 , but he needs to raise another £2000, so please support him if asked.
Good luck to the Year 11 Historians who visit Berlin this Half Term, it will be cold but at least it will be dry!
Enjoy your break.
“Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.”
