Class of 2021 Newsletter
November Issue
Seniors!
With the end of first quarter approaching, now is a good time to sit back to do some self-reflection. Answer the following questions to see if you are on track:
1. Are you passing your required classes?
2. Are you attending regularly?
3. Have you started your 13th year process?
(For example, begun the FAFSA process? Applied to colleges? Talked to recruiters?)
If you answered ‘no’ to any of those questions, talk to your teachers about getting back on track. See Mrs. Kasten, Mr. Lyon or Mrs. Nass in the Career Center if you need help with planning for next year.
Don’t forget, June will be here before we know it!!
Quarter 1 / Quarter 2 "Turnaround"
Quarter 1 (periods 1-4) ends on Friday, November 13th, Quarter 2 classes (periods 5-8) begin on Monday, November 16th.
While we are still in a fully remote learning system, we need your help to continue supporting students with distance learning resources, books and materials.
Students should check their Quarter 2 schedule in Skyward, as class numbers are balanced and things may have changed since you last looked.
On November 9th, 10th, 12th & 13th come into the high school to bring back Q1 books and check out Q2 text books, novels, arts supplies and supplies for CTE classes.
IMPORTANT:
If you are (or were) in any of the following classes during Q1 you MUST return all associated books before you will be issued Q2 books. We DO NOT have enough books to support Q2 student enrollment without full return by Q1 students. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated (and needed). Thank You!

Are you making the most of Learning Support Time?
- If you understood the lesson and can complete the assignment, then write it up and submit the work.
- If you partially understood, then ask clarifying questions and return to Zoom with your teacher for the last 10 minutes before submitting your work.
- If you were absent or really struggled with the lesson, then join the breakout room, get more information and have the teacher reteach you the material before you submit your work.
Be organized - make a to-do list and cross things off as you get them off your plate.
Don't procrastinate - What motivates you? Reward yourself when you get things done.
Xello (High School & Beyond Plan) is a STATE Graduation Requirement!
ALL Seniors must complete their High School & Beyond Plan in order to participate in the graduation commencement ceremony in June. If you have not checked in or worked on your plan for a while, do it soon.
** Students who complete their HSBP before winter break will be entered into a drawing to win their choice of Prom Tickets or an Amazon gift card **
Log into Xello from your HelloID apps page and complete each of the required lessons for 12th grade.
The high school website has more information at: https://skhs.skschools.org/students/high_school___beyond_plan___xello_
You can do this online at home anytime. Email your Counselor or Mrs. Nass if you need help completing this task.
File your FAFSA.. for any type of college or trade school.
In Washington, there are two different applications for financial aid, but you only need to file one:
- File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- File the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) if you are not eligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status.
You should apply for financial aid as soon after October 1 as possible. Do not wait until you are admitted to apply. You do not need to know whether or where you plan to go to school or what programs you might be interested in to file for financial aid.
*PARENTS: "Save The Date" - November 18. Kitsap Regional Financial Aid filing night.
Watch this quick 7 minute video covering the 4 main points about State Financial Aid Programs. https://youtu.be/9AdHCmbsP0w

She can walk you through creating your FAFSA ID and completing the FAFSA online.
Email her at nasss@skschools.org

Reduced AP fees
**UPDATE!!** If you're taking an AP exam in math, science, computer science, or Lang (11th grade), your test fees have been reduced by 50% for those exams due to the National Math & Science Initiative (NMSI) grant!! Those exam prices have already been adjusted in the SK webstore to reflect the 50% discount.**
Once you register with your teacher’s join code in MyAP/AP Classroom, your test decision will automatically be defaulted to “yes”. It’s expected, but not required, that you take the AP exam if you are in an AP course. However, you need to decide by JANUARY 8, 2021 if you are NOT taking the AP exam, so we can adjust 2nd semester scheduling and change your testing decision in MyAP. AP Coordinators Mrs. Duchene and Mrs. Evans will be reaching out to students for that.
AP exams cost $95 per exam this year. (**AP math, science, comp sci, and Lang exams are $47.50 this year due to the NMSI grant!!)
You have three options for paying. Please read these options carefully and let Mrs. Duchene and/or Mrs. Evans know if you have any questions.
OPTION 1: PAY IN FULL
If you’re going to pay in full by March 5th, 2021, go to the ASB webstore, choose your AP courses, and pay online. Please make sure you choose the correct test.
OPTION 2: FEES WAIVED FOR STUDENTS ON FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH
If you qualify for free or reduced lunch this year, your exam fees for AP exams are covered! Go to the ASB webstore by March 5th, and it will ring up a $0 test. Be sure to check out! You will also need to fill out the Low-Income Verification form, scan and email it to Mrs. Duchene at duchene@skschools.org and/or Mrs. Evans at evansf@skschools.org by March 6th, 2021.
OPTION 3: PAYMENT PLAN
If you’d like to go on a payment plan, please email Mrs. Duchene and/or Mrs. Evans to set that up. The earlier you start the payment plan, the lower your monthly payments will be. Your payment plan needs to be signed by you and your parent/guardian and returned to Mrs. Duchene and/or Mrs. Evans prior to March 5th, 2021, and final payment is due by May 1st, 2021.
Any questions? Please contact Mrs. Duchene at duchene@skschools.org or Mrs. Evans at evansf@skschools.org.
