SAT and ACT Exams
Updates
- The UCs and the CSUs have waived the standardized testing requirement for this year! However, there are some colleges and universities that do still require standardized tests for admission. Please check individual college websites for the most up to date information.
- If you can secure a testing spot, I recommend you take the exam. You don't have to submit your scores, if you are not pleased with the results. If you did really well, this could be an added bonus to your application.
- Please be aware that all military academies are still requiring standardized tests.
- If you cannot take the exam because it has been cancelled due to COVID, you are encouraged to still apply to the college or military academy. Obviously, this is beyond your control and you should still be considered for admission.
UC Application Tips
You will select four (4) Personal Insight Questions to write about in your application - please use the worksheet to help you get started.
ALWAYS create a google document to write your college essays! Please share it with me (or anyone you trust) before you add and submit your essays.
ALL UC applications are due November 30th.
PLEASE use this blurb in the additional comments section (under Academic Additional information OR the additional comments section):
Sonoma Valley High School (SVHS) adopted a Credit/No Credit policy for the Spring 2020 Semester as a result of school closures due to Covid-19. Sonoma Valley Unified School District moved to a Distance Learning policy for the Fall 2020 Semester. Students will be issued grades and credits based on class participation, homework and testing. A-F grades will be issued at the end of the Fall 2020 Semester. SVHS will resume in-class instruction, hybrid or regular, when it is safe to return to the classroom.
The CCC will be hosting virtual "drop-in" sessions to help you with all your applications, please check back.
Common Application
Many colleges require teacher and counselor letters of recommendation. Please check each school before you ask your teacher and/or counselor to write your letter for you. You will invite your teachers on your Naviance account.
Please be aware of the various deadlines for all the colleges on your college list.
