Deserts are formed by weathering processes high temperature's between day and night put heat on the rocks which breaks into pieces. Although rain occurs in deserts, there are heavy showers that can cause flash floods. Rain falling on hot rocks can cause them to shatter and the left over pieces lay over the desert floor, which is eroded by the wind.
