Ornament Workshop

For those who like to plan ahead......On Tuesday, December 17th, we'll spend from 11:15-1:00 making ornaments! Please use the link below to sign up if you're interested in helping. I am looking for parents who want to float around and help kids as needed and parents who would be brave enough to run a station. The kids will be painting and using those fine motor skills! In addition, I'm asking each child to contribute $2 towards the cost of supplies. Please send that in at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your continued support!

Feast of Favorites

Thank you to the families who have already signed up! We really need to fill the open slots since the feast will be our lunch!

Robotics Next Week!

Fifteen of the twenty-one kids signed up to participate in 4th grade robotics with Mrs. Coleates. They will have three sessions next Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:10-9:40. They are very excited!

What a week?!?!

Small Groups - We struggled a bit this week keeping all students up to pace with their reading. In addition, some kids forgot their books at home. I do have a couple extra on hand. This first round of groups provides an opportunity for kids to develop responsibility with reading expectations and also bringing their book home and remembering to bring it back to school the next day. The conversations around the table are just so much better when all participants know what's going on.

PAWS - Most kids were able to bring home their first assignment. We started PAWS #2 today. The kids have to take a stand on hunting. To help with ideas, we did some brainstorming of the pros and cons of the sport. I always find these essays very interesting to read. The goal is to have #2 complete by Thanksgiving.

Picture Book Friday - Oliver was quite entertaining with Be Quiet! We were able to come up with two possible themes; do what you're told and it's important to have patience for things that drive you crazy! I'm looking for a young lady who wants to read next Friday!

Big picture

Mrs. Close's Class ~ It's been another busy week in 4th grade math! I have to say, i am impressed with the kids' abilities to explain their answers when they compare fractions! During the upcoming week, the kids will be writing and reading decimal numbers to hundredths, exploring decimals in the context of measurement, and comparing decimals. We will also review the first CML and MO competitions. You can look for these results in next week's Friday Folder. The plan is to have the kids complete the unit 3 assessment on Monday the 25th or Tuesday the 26th. Thank you for all the support at home with homework and multiplication fact practice.

Ms. Gleason's Class ~ We have practiced multiplying 2, 3 and 4-digit numbers by 1- digit. The students learned the standard algorithm very quickly and are doing great with it. We have spent the last two days solving multi-step word problems. Next week we will be multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. Again the children will learn a few different methods and will be allowed to choose the one that works best for them. Keep studying those facts!

Today was our third day to track the location of each crayfish. We are looking to see if any of them appear to be claiming a territory. We've also begun learning about snails. Sometime before Thanksgiving Break, the kids will observe the Snail Pull!

Our plants continue to grow!

Beginning next week, the kids who play instruments will need to bring them twice a week! Orchestra and band ensembles officially begin on Wednesday. The groups meet at the end of the school day from 2:25-3:00. Lessons, as usual, will be held on Thursday.

Congratulations to Izzy and Caroline for being fierce enough to qualify and compete in the preliminary round of the Geobee! Caroline is moving on to the final round!

Friday Specials

This is the first year that we are having rotating Friday specials. For the first 10 weeks of school we had art on Friday. Now that we're in the second 10 weeks, the kids have PE on Fridays until the end of January. Then we'll have music and end the year with PE on Fridays.

So now kids have to be sure to have sneakers on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
