Welcome Mrs. Katherine Lee, our new ECSE teacher

Mrs. Lee is our new ECSE teacher. I am happy to welcome her to Clinton Valley. She started this week, but she came in even earlier to get her classroom ready for her little ones. She has a ton of energy and is very knowledgeable in what she does. She has a love and determination to ensure that the kids are learning and feel loved in her classroom. She has a new para in the classroom with her by the name of Erika Ali. She too has already joined our team!

"I have been in the education field for over 18 years. I have a master's degree and endorsements in early childhood, Autism and Learning Disabilities. I love to read, swim, and go for walks! I'm married with two girls who are four and nine." ~ Katherine

Please help me in welcoming her to the CVE team!

Welcome Ms. Erika Ali, our new ECSE Para

I have been working with children for as long as I can remember but started my first job in early childhood after graduating high school in 2013. I worked at the Early Childhood Center for Warren Woods Public Schools for several years before joining the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. I have been a behavior technician since 2018 and enjoy watching kiddos blossom and achieve the goals they have been working so hard on. I am also a full-time student at Capella University, Majoring in Psychology and Specializing in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Please help me in welcoming her to the CVE team!

Welcome Ms. Hind Shalhout, our new Speech & Language Pathologist

I am happy to welcome Ms. Hind Shalhout as our new Speech & Language Pathologist! Hind will be servicing Mrs. Lee's ECSE classroom and will start on Monday, January 10th.

Hind comes with a variety of experiences as a speech pathologist in another district in Michigan, as well as working in New York Public Schools.

New Sensory Trails for all students

We put in new Sensory Trails for our students. We placed one down by our Kindergarten and ECSE classes for our younger students, and we also put one across from the Media Center for our old students.

Sensory Trails can be excellent tools in schools to help kids calm, develop gross motor skills, and provide sensory breaks. They can be good for ALL students, not just kids with sensory concerns. You can use the trail with anyone! Many kids have times during their day when they struggle to sit still or have trouble with a particular subject.

Each teacher has been given directions on how and when to use these trails. Our OT from the ISD will be providing training to some of our students and teachers on how to use them.

Assessments

We have already begun benchmark testing in 1st & 2nd grade. We completed our NWEA testing for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. We will start Kindergarten on January 11th.

We have already begun to see a considerable amount of growth in math and reading from our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, according to NWEA. We are very proud of the students' accomplishments. We will continue to move forward with our intentional instruction to see how much they will grow by the end of the year.

2nd grade has been assessed on aReading, CBMReading, and aMath

3rd - 5th has been assessed on Reading and Math

Below you will find the Fastbridge assessments that our Kindergarten and 1st grade will be benchmarked on.

What's Happening in 4/5 Blend with Mrs. McDermott.....Christmas Party

I always forget to send pictures of the fun things happening in my classroom, so I just wanted to share some cute photos from our day today! We had hot chocolate while we watched Polar Express and decorated sugar cookies! The kids had a blast!
