CAASPP State Testing Parent/Guardian Notification
March 2023
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Each spring Cambrian School District participates in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing. These tests include both the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC) and California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for English Language Arts and Math. Cambrian students in grades 3-8 will again be participating in these tests this spring. The California Science Test (CAST) or the CAA for Science will be administered to students in grades 5 and 8 only. Parents and guardians will receive score reports around August 2023 showing your child’s performance on the tests.
The overall CAASPP system is designed to give information to teachers, students, and their families about what students know and are able to do, and whether they are on track for success in school and ultimately college and career readiness. The CAASPP assessments are one measure that is used, along with other information, to determine the progress that our schools and district are making in educating all students.
The state has set a mandatory accountability participation rate requiring at least 95% of all students to take the CAASPP assessments. Our goal as a district is to have over 95% of all students in Cambrian grades 3-8 participate in the assessments. The students’ academic results provide us with vital information to help determine the programs, resources, and support needed by our teachers, students, and schools to ensure the success of every child in Cambrian. If you have questions regarding your child’s participation in CAASPP or to request an exemption, please contact your child’s principal.
Our official district-wide testing window this year will be April 17, 2023 through June 2, 2023. Within this window, each school site will create a specific testing schedule and will notify the parents and community of testing dates and times.
