Clearview Regional High School Newsletter - October 30, 2020
A word from Mr. Brook...
Good afternoon parents and guardians.
I am reaching out to share some concerns we have been noticing at the high school during our Hybrid/Remote learning. We are now approximately halfway through the first semester and are committed to assisting all students to be successful. It is my hope that we can work together to foster a collaborative approach to maintain the active engagement of our students along with academic integrity.
Some observations:
Students will login to their class and walk away from the chromebook and not engage in teacher planned activities. Students are to stay in their class during their scheduled class time.
Students are staying home to work remotely when they are scheduled to take assessments in person. Parents, not students, should call the school main office and not individual teachers, when their student is going to be absent. Choosing to stay home on in-class assessment days can contribute to cheating opportunities.
Students are picking and choosing days to stay home because they felt like working from home instead of coming in. Parents, not students, should call the school main office and not individual teachers when their student is going to be absent.
Students are missing classes throughout the school day and emailing teachers at night to request work.
Students are attempting to attend classes while riding in cars or while at work. We expect students to honor the scheduled class time for active participation.
Although not unique to CRHS, we continue to receive ongoing reports of rampant cheating. Students should be using the school-issued Chromebooks for all assessments and classwork.
It is our goal to have students acquire the necessary skills for their future success through active engagement in their learning. We encourage our students to take advantage of meeting with their teachers during their office hours between 1:30 pm and 2:35 pm every day. School chromebooks must be used for academic work for our GoGuardian and assessment software.
We understand that technical difficulties may arise while working from home; however, students who do not attend classes without parent notification will accrue attendance points. We will be writing students up for class cuts when appropriate, which can adversely affect students' eligibility for future school activities as well. Again, our goal is to provide students with the best possible experiences while preparing them for their future endeavours. Let's work together to foster open lines of communication as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times.
Thank you for your continued support.

Morning Drop off and the weather??!!??
Parent Reminder: If your student is hybrid and will be working remotely on a certain day, you must call/email the attendance office and let them know or your student will be marked absent!
If your student is not feeling well or is going to be absent for another reason, please call or email our Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Pierson, as per the information below. Students who are participating in the Hybrid model and call out sick may participate remotely on those days if they feel up to it, but must be called out by a parent in order for them to not be marked absent.
We have had several students participating in the hybrid model who have emailed teachers saying they were not feeling well and will be participating remotely. While we certainly are remaining as flexible as we can during these unprecedented times with regard to attendance, parents need to be the ones that contact our attendance officer to confirm an absence. We cannot rely on student communication to teachers as confirmation of an absence. In addition, students missing busses and over sleeping are not acceptable reasons to miss class either in person or remotely and will be marked as absent appropriately.
Students should contact teachers if they are not feeling well and will be participating remotely on a particular day. However, parents MUST contact Mrs. Pierson with the information below. If a student contacts a teacher and we do not receive a parent contact as well, the student will be marked as absent appropriately.
Again, we will be as flexible as we can but we need your cooperation to make this process a smooth one.
*Late Arrival/Early Dismissal students: parents will send an email to Mrs. Pierson to inform the school the periods that senior students will be attending in person. This email should come from a parent, not the student. If your students' late arrival or early release falls before, after or around their wellness class then they are not required to attend their wellness class. They are required to attend their wellness class when their late arrival/early work release is either first thing in the morning or at the end of the day.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Pierson.
