The Hoot Owl
October 2021
NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As a reminder, when the weather turns cooler, children start bringing jackets to school. Please put your child's name inside the jacket so that it can be returned to the owner. We donate bags of jackets yearly that get turned into the lost and found and are then never claimed.
October is a great month to reach out and thank your child's teacher for a successful start to the school year. Here are some ideas:
*Check their favorites at the link below and send them a thank you treat!
*Create a TAE in Parent Access for them to let them know how much you appreciate their hard work.
*Ask them if their class needs snacks and/or supplies.
*Have your child write a note to them telling them what they like about the teacher.
SCHOOL SHIRTS
Shirts are currently on sale through our school website as well as through a paper copy that will be sent home. Ordering online closes on Sunday, October 3 at midnight. Paper orders are due with exact cash or check by Tuesday, October 5. We want to encourage parents to take part in ordering a shirt for your child. We want to have spirit days this year where we all wear our school shirts to take time to purchase your child a school shirt.
This is a fundraiser to help improve and sustain our school garden.
Order shirts here.
NOTES FROM THE NURSE
Happy October and Fall Weather!
With cooler temperatures please make sure your child is properly dressed. Please also send a jacket with them. And as always please pack a full extra set of clothes just in case.
Along with Covid-19 we are also monitoring Flu numbers. Please contact the school and let us know if your child has tested positive for the Flu and type if you were informed of it. Thank you for your help.

BOOK FAIR
Dear Families and Friends,
The Scholastic Book Fair is back!
The Fair will connect your kids to notable books and inspiring characters — helping them become lifelong readers.
Since visitors on campus are restricted right now, shopping during the school day will be limited to students only. Luckily, we have a safe alternative to cash. BOOK FAIR eWALLET is the best way to fund your student’s wish list! eWallets can be used at the in-school Fair or online to shop from 5,000+ products. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund an eWallet for a future Fair. Just go to your fair website, https://www.scholastic.com/bf/ore13, to set up your child's eWallet.
Plus, enjoy these special online shopping features:
Access to over 6,000 products
All orders ship direct to home
FREE shipping on book-only orders over $25*
All purchases support our school and earn 25% in rewards
Save these dates and view our school’s Fair site:

Parent Liason
We are excited this year to have a new member on staff, Mrs. Carroll. She will be serving as our Parent Liason. Mrs. Carroll is going to work with us to help bridge the communication between school and home. Mrs. Carroll is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Mrs. Carroll will be reaching out to families about attendance as well as other issues here at school. If you need assistance with school or have other needs that we can help with, please reach out to Mrs. Carroll.
COVID RESTRICTION UPDATES:
So what does this mean for Oak Ridge Elementary:
*Lunch
We will slowly begin the process of opening up for parents to come have lunch with their children. This will be on a VERY limited basis to start. In an effort to make it special and limit exposure to all students, we will have tables set up on the outdoor patio for parents next week as a trial run. Here's what you need to know if you wish to come:
*Sign up using the reservation link below.
*Parents are restricted to only ONE day next week.
*Parents will need a valid ID and will enter the front of the building.
*Go straight to the cafeteria to meet your child and bring them to the patio tables.
*When lunch is over, parents must leave. Parents cannot attend recess nor visit the child's classroom per Level 3 restrictions.
PTO
This year we will be fundraising to help the school with technology needs as well as fun events for the students throughout the year.
