4th Graders will make homemade blankets to give to children in need through the non-profit organization, Project Linis.
January News from BLOCK Classes
Physical Education
- · We will focus on basketball skills such as dribbling, catching/passing and shooting.
- · In Fitness Gram, we will record height/weight, sit and reach, trunk lift and curl ups.
- · For gymnastic skills, we will perform basic skills such as jumping, balance, strength and flexibility.
- · On the last day of the month, Coach Crook from Chisholm Trail HS will introduce tennis skills to students in 3rd – 5th grade.
Music
- · K-1st: We will learn to read and identify quarter and eighth notes via iconic notation and translate them to notated rhythm.
- · 2nd - 3rd: We will review quarter, eighth, and half notes and learn to read and count quarter and half rests.
- · 4th: We will practice sight reading 8-measure rhythm patterns including whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes with quarter, half and whole rests.
- · 5th: We will practice sight reading 8-16 measure rhythm patterns including whole, half, quarter, and eighth, and sixteenth notes with quarter, half, eighth and whole rests.
Art
- · K-2nd: We will learn about symmetry and balance.
- · 3rd-5th: We will learn about value, balance and perspective.
Library
- · Recognize style elements of various authors and illustrators.
- · Identify elements that contribute to an award winning book.
- · Locate books on the shelves using call numbers.
- · Generate ideas or relevant questions for inquiry.
- · Draw conclusions from information gathered.
Makerspace
- · Q-ba-Maze -a unique system of colorful cubes that interlock to form a marble run.
- · Power clix- colorful, translucent plastics and geometric shapes that allow for open-ended, creativity-inspiring 2D and 3D constructions.
- · Osmo- award-winning game system that will change the way your child interacts with the iPad by opening it up to hands-on play
- · Dash robot with accessories- Dash is a real robot, charged and ready to play out of the box. Responding to voice, navigating objects, dancing, and singing.
- · Band a loom- Math Skill-Building. Serious, hands-on math skill-building with each and every bracelet made.
- · Laser maze-A logic maze game that teaches STEM skills. Laser Maze requires you to use mirrors, beam-splitters, a little science and brainpower to direct the laser through a series of mind-challenging mazes and light up the target.
