Registration - Focus on IntraDistrict Transfers
We have begun planning for the 2021-22 school year. A reminder that all students are placed at their school of residence per their address. If you are interested in attending a school other than your home school, you need to submit an online intradistrict transfer request. Intradistrict requests are not guaranteed to be approved, as we approve students on a space-available basis. You can contact the office if you need to verify your address or school of residence.
All the information about the intradistrict transfer process (boundary maps, guidance and the form) are online here. The deadline to submit requests is 2/19 at 4 pm. Please note that if you are on an intradistrict transfer this year, you will need to request a new intradistrict for next year.
There is a lot more information about registration at the end of this newsletter. If you have a new student coming into our schools (in any grade), an incoming TK or K student, or a student moving to middle school, please be sure to review that section.
Three Day Weekend Coming Up
We will have Monday, 1/18 off from school in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. The school and the office will be closed. Please make a note on your calendar!
So long, but not goodbye!
By now, you likely have heard that I have taken on a new role in our district; I will be moving over to Lincoln High School starting on Tuesday, 1/19. I want our families to know that this is a very bittersweet change. I will miss our Colts, families and staff tremendously, and I consider myself so fortunate to be leaving a place I love so much. You all are so dear to me, and I hope you'll keep me posted as your children grow up - it's likely that I'll see at least some of them in the future!
We have a wonderful interim principal coming on board! Dr. Denise Parnell (Dr. D. as you'll come to know her!) is thrilled to be coming into our community. She has a big heart for children, significant experience working in elementary schools as a site administrator, as well as experience working at the district and state levels advocating and working on issues facing education. We are so lucky to have her at LCES and I know she'll be a great fit! She will introduce herself to you in the coming days, and she will be on campus this week (Wednesday-Friday). She will be on board 100% beginning on Tuesday, 1/19. Although she'll be a rock star, I ask that you offer grace in the coming weeks as we work through this transition!
It truly is a great day to be a Colt, and I'm so grateful that I got to be a part of a community of learners and educators that embodies the Colt Way and gives their all everyday. I will carry my experiences with me to LHS, and my time here will inspire me as a Zebra. But once a Colt, always a Colt - you will always be in my heart and mind. Thank you for everything.
Love & Logic Workshop
Love & Logic is a philosophy for working with children/students that is warmly regarded by educators and many, many parents (many of our staff included!). Love & Logic is offering a free seminar on Tuesday, January 12 from 5-7 pm that will introduce you to Love & Logic and will address current COVID-related parenting problems. If you attend, you'll have the opportunity to enroll in the full online Love & Logic course for only $49 (that's 50% off!).

FAQ RE. TK and K:
Is my child eligible for TK or K? Our Transitional Kindergarten program is for children who turn 5 between 9/2/21-1/31/22. Kinder is for children who turn 5 on/before 9/1/21. These are pretty hard rules, but if you have questions, contact Scott Pickett at the District Office (916 645 6350) or Jen Hladun at LCES (916 434 5292).
What are the times for TK? I anticipate our Transitional Kindergarten program (your child must turn 5 between 9/2/21-1/31/22) will be a half day program, but I do not yet know if we will offer AM, PM or both. Those decisions are made later in the spring and are driven by enrollment in our program.
What are the times for K? If your child is Kindergarten age (your child must turn 5 on/before 9/1/21 to qualify) we are excited to offer an extended day program beginning in the Fall 2021. School will run from approximately 8:15am-1:40pm; students will eat lunch on campus.
I am hearing about a bilingual education program???? Our district also offers an amazing Bilingual Immersion Program for Kindergartners. This program is housed at Creekside Oaks Elementary School. Placement in this program will be based on a lottery, and you can elect to participate in the lottery when you complete your enrollment materials.
How can I learn more about TK and K? The district is hosting a virtual information meeting on January 11th (info about our TK program will be shared at 5:30 pm, info about the Kinder and Bilingual program will be shared at 6:15 pm). Consider joining the conversation so that you are well informed and prepared for the registration process - RSVP for the info meeting here!
CURRENT GR. K-5 LCES FAMILIES:
If your child is currently in grades K-5, his/her registration for the 2021-22 school year will automatically be processed.
- Students in grades K-4 will be enrolled in a class at their home school for next year. This is Lincoln Crossing for most of our families. You do NOT need to do anything at this time.
- Students in grades K-4 who are at LCES on an inter- or intra-district transfer WILL need to fill out a form if you chose to stay at Lincoln Crossing. The form is online and is available on Tuesday, 1/5 here.
- Students in grade 5 will automatically be enrolled at Twelve Bridges Middle School (which is our community’s Middle School per the boundaries). You do NOT need to do anything at this time.
Students going to TBMS next year will have the opportunity to learn more about what to expect later this spring. I do not have the details about that yet, but as soon as we have more information, we will pass it along to you!
