💬 Superintendent's Message 💬
Greetings, Hingham Community,
The last few days of every year are a whirlwind with so many activities and events that highlight the joy of our schools and our community. There are also so many opportunities to celebrate our young people as they move from one grade to another or one school to another. We also have the opportunity to showcase their learning as artists, problem solvers, collaborators, communicators, scientists, musicians, athletes, readers, writers, and mathematicians. At every event I am able to join in, I am amazed by how our students have grown this year. Each student’s smile or laugh is a reminder of the important role our schools play in shaping our community. It has been my absolute pleasure to join in this journey with them this year.
I am equally grateful to every staff member who supported our students, families, and each other this year. The accomplishments of our young people are a testament to these collaborative efforts. I am equally humbled to join all of our staff in support of our mission to support the learning and growth of the students in our care.
To our families, I am grateful for your partnership with us. It is only together that we can be successful in building young people prepared for the many challenges facing our communities. They will need the collaborative, problem-solving, and communication skills that we can model for them as we strive to support them to navigate the complexities of the world around them.
At high school graduation this year, I shared the best pearls of wisdom I had from my own journey as an educator, leader, and as a parent. Most of these don’t relate directly to any specific content area or discipline but are the life lessons of trying to be the best versions of ourselves. Here is a list of these small pearls:
Care and love deeply for those around you.
Listen to the voices of others more than you talk.
Extend a hand to others in need.
Smile more than you frown.
Wish “Good Morning” to as many people as you can every day.
Sing in the shower.
Turn up the music. Dance whenever you can, especially when alone.
Laugh a lot.
Work hard but remember to have fun too.
Find your passions and follow them.
So, as we move into the summer months, strive to practice as many of these as possible.
Have a great summer! We will see you soon in September.
Sincerely,
Margaret Adams
