The Pilgrims' Chairs
Part 1 of The Canterbury Tales test
Overview
Part 1 of your Canterbury Tales test will be your performance in The Pilgrims' Chairs. You will need to argue the morality or immorality of four pilgrims: the Wife of Bath, the Pardoner, the Miller, and the Squire.
Two rows of chairs will face each other. One row will argue that the character is a good role model; the other row will argue that the character is not a good role model.
Process
To begin, you will choose which side you would like to argue for the pilgrim currently being discussed. You may choose to switch sides at any time.
We will take turns listening to pros/cons on the pilgrim until discussion ends.
Scoring
For each comment you take, you will receive 10 points, up to 100 points for 10 turns.
Comments need to reference a line in the text OR be a counter-argument to the other side's previous comment.
After 10 turns, you will earn 25 XP for each comment.
How Should I Prepare?
Take a packet of the pilgrims' descriptions with you. Look at the descriptions of the Wife of Bath, the Pardoner, the Miller, and the Squire once again.
- Decide which side you will take for each one: Good Role Model or Not?
- Mark lines that you can cite in your comments
