Best of the Class of 2021
By Amanda Bruers, Sophie Gelinas & Leah Ho
The California Distinguished School Award is given to 5-10% of all schools in California every year. Earlier this month the California DS Award for 2021 was given to Bert M. Lynn Middle School by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, and The California Department of Education (CDE). Receiving this award means that in the year 2021 our middle school is one of the top 100 middle and high schools in the state of California, recognized for all-around excellence.
Thurmond praised Lynn M.S. and others that received the award saying, “These schools are great examples of California’s commitment to provide outstanding public education for all students, and their data-driven efforts have helped ensure that their students leave with the tools and skills they need to be successful after graduation.” He continued to add, “Our thanks go to the entire communities surrounding these schools, including the teachers, administrators, and classified employees as well as the students and their families who, through teamwork, all accomplished this impressive achievement together.”
TUSD media contact, Tammy Khan said “We are extremely proud of the efforts all our schools make to foster a safe and healthy environment on our campuses.” The California Distinguished School Program recognizes elementary, middle, and high schools in alternate years and allows eligible schools to apply for the California DS Award once every two years. Schools recognized as a California DS Awardee hold the DS Title for two years. In addition to Lynn - Calle Mayor, Casimir, Madrona, and Richardson Middle Schools received this recognition.

6th Graders Return to Campus, by Leah Ho
On March 22 and March 23, the 6th graders received their official tour of the Bert Lynn campus. There were close to 30 kids, the group split up, and about 15 students went with Mr. Jackson while the other half went with Mrs. Bedrosian. The groups walked around the campus and were shown where their classes were located.
Spring Break April 5-9!!
We'll See You in the 4th Quarter!
PTSA Note to 8th Grade Families
Attention 8th grade families:
This year we are asking for a $25.00 direct donation for each 8th grade student. This is an unusual year since we cannot hold our yearly Staff vs. 8th Grade Volleyball Fundraiser. Without this fundraiser we have very limited monies to cover plans for our 200 8th grade students. (Any amount is appreciated and will help!)
With enough donations, each 8th grade student will receive a lawn/window sign, a giveaway bag with souvenirs, a graduation banner that will be hung at Bert Lynn for photo opportunities, and a West High class color T-shirt that can be worn throughout students' West High years for spirit days. (West High School’s Class of 2025’s class color is GREEN!)
More info will be shared after our spring break.
Want to donate now? Send or drop off a check to us at Bert Lynn, 5038 Halison St, Torrance, CA 90503. Make checks out to "Bert Lynn Middle School PTSA"
