Melissa Webb's FREE Test Prep for Writing Success Webinar!

Last night I had the privilege of attending Melissa Webb's online parent webinar. I am so grateful I did! Her webinar was very informative for our upcoming state testing. Three of my kids are testing this year and this webinar was just what I needed!

You're in luck! It was recorded! Here is the information below...

Tonight I hosted my LAST live, online event for the Test Prep for Writing Success 2019 parent webinar. And, what a special and wonderful group we had. THANK YOU to all who gave of their time and energy.

If you missed it, no worries! We remembered to record it. And, as promised, before my head hits the pillow, here is all you requested.

FAQ

Q: Will my student receive A-G or AP credit for the Shmoop courses that he/she completes?

A: Inspire does not have approval for offering Shmoop courses as AP credit. AP courses may be taken for elective non “a-g” credit and in preparation of taking the AP exam, but will not be designated as such on the student’s Inspire transcript.

There are Shmoop courses that are approved for A-G credit, however, some may require the student to also complete the Inspire A-G standards-based course. Here is the Shmoop Course Catalog for Inspire High School students; it has additional information on A-G credit using Shmoop.

Q: Is there a full list of resources I will receive if I opt-into Shmoop?

A: Yes, please click here for a full list of the Shmoop resources you will receive access to by opting-in!

Please click here for the Inspire Shmoop Course Catalog for high school students.

Sharing The Homeschool Heart.... Preparing for your future in home education.

When it comes to the homeschool lifestyle, I like to help parents think about the whole journey. Even if you have young TK, Kindergarten, first or second-grade students, it's helpful to think about the kinds of milestones you may want to hit each step of the way. For some, that looks like our “I can” statements; for others, it can look like personal goals that one sets for one's own children, individually, based on their individual needs and own learning styles and ability.

When I initially set out to homeschool, my long-term vision was to create an atmosphere where learning was fun and my children could be self educators and independent learners. For the first five to seven years I was researching and learning all that I could about how others homeschool through mom-to-mom conversations, studying other countries' methods for schooling their elementary-aged children, and learning whatever I could from blogs and websites I found on the internet from experienced homeschool parents. Reading testimonies from others about successful methods of home education and typical trials and common hurdles was so encouraging and allowed me to think differently about what we were doing. Educating myself in that way gave me the freedom to be the type of homeschool parent I knew I wanted to be. My instincts were telling me that a freer, more eclectic education would provide my children with better opportunities to learn more things and to expand their ability to educate themselves.

I love experiencing education with my little ones. Learning alongside them and watching them delight in new things is a joy. Once they hit 6th grade, I start to prepare them to be a little more independent. I encourage them to try more things on their own for enjoyment and create in any way they would like to create. I also explain to them that we are going to take the middle school years to practice a higher level of learning and more independent learning. There's no pressure; it's just practice time for them and us together to get ready for high school.

I like to introduce a little more structure inside our home as well with my kids' chores. During the middle school years, the responsibility level kicks up a notch, just like schooling does. Growing them to be independent, capable self-led young adults is very important to me. Using the middle school years as a practice ground for all those essential things has so far been very successful for our first two teenagers. I encourage you to develop the type of plan you think might work for your family. Think about where you want your middle schoolers to be when they reach that level. Think about what you want your high school homeschool experience to look like. It's all about what your goals are for your family. Take some time this summer to plan the next year. Then loosely plan the 5-year goals and 10-year goals. Sometimes, just a small timeline of goals can take the pressure off and give you a plan to look forward to. Reach out if you need help planning. Audrey and I are always here for you!

Audrey Everson

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!

We want to hear from you!
