Big picture

Spirit Day Kick Off!

Friday kicked off our first Spirit Day assembly! The children were separated in their teams. Mrs. Guiterrez and Mrs. Penneti shared information on the student council process to the children. The enthusiasm was palpable!

We look forward to the process of the selection of the student council and working with them to represent their constituents.

You definitely could not hide, the Sussex Star pride in the air!!

Kindness for Christopher

October 5th we will be kicking off our Kindness initiative with an assembly titled Kindness for Christopher.

The week of October 8th, I am asking all teachers to schedule time for their students to develop a quote or a saying regarding good character. I have 300+ painted river rocks in various different colors. Each student will get a rock to inscribe a kind message, saying, or quote.

At the conclusion of the activity, the children will sign a Kindness Pledge. Once the rocks are prepped, we will be gathering student council members will assist in the development of our Kindness Garden. The garden will be assembled in the front of the school building. Below is an article on how the Kindness for Christopher movement began.

Last week our "Quote of the Week" was "We rise by lifting others."- Robert Ingersoll.

I hope the conversations around the quote each week make their way home and continue to evoke discussion on how to internalize and apply these words into our students daily lives.

The Power of Developing a Growth Mindset!

As indicated at Back to School Night, we are focusing on fostering a growth mindset in our students. I am providing an additional smore newsletter, dedicated to Growth Mindset as a resource for parents. You can find it by click the section below.
