A message from Mr. Finkle!
What a beginning to the school year here at Delran High School. I can't believe that one month has passed already. Time sure flies when you are having fun!
There are a couple of events that I would like to call your attention to that are coming soon.
First and foremost, next week has been determined to be a Week of Respect. Our Safety Committee has been busy working with clubs and activities within the school to bring attention to the good things that we do here at DHS each and every day. Remember, we have but one rule here: Respect Yourself; Respect Others; and Respect the Environment. I look forward to a great week with a culminating special treat for a few students. More to come on that front.
Secondly, late next week and the following week will be our Homecoming Festivities. I look forward to spending time with students and parents at the float sites throughout the coming days. I truly love the way each class comes together and dedicates time and effort to produce amazing floats and awesome skits. What a great time for the Delran community! The theme of Homecoming 2017 is... Come on, you didn't think I would spoil the surprise did you? The theme will be announced on Tuesday afternoon October 3, 2017.
Also during homecoming week, we will be administering the PSATs to all Sophomores and Juniors on October 11, 2017. The testing begins at 7:30 so please make sure that your child is here on time. Please remember that the Freshmen and Seniors have a two-hour delayed opening.
We have also made a few adjustments to our schedule over the month of October due to some conflicts. College Information Evening (10/17) has been moved as well as Delran's Got Talent (10/24). More on these events as they get closer.
I wish you and your family a wonderful beginning of autumn. As in the past, you should expect these broadcasts bi-weekly throughout the school year.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or 856-461-6100 x3005.

Week of Respect: 10-2 through 10-6
Week of Respect is especially significant this year as it ties in with our school-wide theme, and our School Safety Team has coordinated the following activities:
All week: Student Government officers will read quotes about respect during announcements .
Peer leaders will distribute buttons to students who exemplify respectful character traits.
Teachers may award “You are awesome because” slips to students, and/or encourage students
to award to each other. Pads will be available in every classroom.
Safety Team will hang respect posters in stairwells.
Monday: During all lunches, students will make a personal link about respect to be formed into a chain of respect and displayed in the cafeteria. Students will be given the option of photographing their link and posting to Instagram #DHSRespect2017.
Thursday: Mix-It-Up Trivia Lunches--Cafeteria will be decorated with tablecloths and centerpieces. Students will be assigned to tables by symbols where they will work together as a team on a trivia challenge. The winners will receive an amazing prize!
Chemistry Open House 10/17
The DHS chemistry teachers will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, October 17. Stop by rooms 141 and 142 before the PTA meeting to see what students have been working on so far this year! We will also have student work displayed from the 2016-2017 school year so that current parents and students will see what to expect in the coming months. Students and teachers will be available to answer questions and demonstrate highlights.
We look forward to seeing you between 5:30 and 6:30 pm on October 17 (rooms 141/142).

College Planning...What should we be doing?
Is your senior college ready?
Click HERE to review what to do to prepare for college admissions. The counselors will be
presenting class lessons on what seniors should be doing to get their applications out.
- Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to attend the meetings with college representatives. This can be a great way to speak with a person from admissions in a small group setting to not only learn about the college and what it offers but to also demonstrate your child’s potential interest in the school. This is something that colleges track and can support the admissions decision.
- Students at all grade levels are encouraged to begin exploring colleges. Build colleges of interest in Naviance and plan campus visitations.
- Colleges conduct open houses and campus tours throughout the fall. Please check with your schools of interest for dates and times. You can also check the guidance page under “College Open Houses”
- Many colleges also offer opportunities for prospective students to attend a class or otherwise gain greater insight into their campus and academic offerings. For example, Rider University allows students to register to be a “Student for a Day”. Visit https://www.rider.edu/admissions/undergraduate/visits/be-rider-student-day to register.
- Rutgers School of Engineering is hosting “Knight for a Day Engineering Tours” in October and early November. For further information and to register go to http://soe.rutgers.edu/tours
- RCBC is hosting a Fall Open House event, RCBC FEST, on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 12 pm - 4 pm., to showcase information on Academic Programs, Student Resources and more. Visit www.rcbc.edu/celebration for further information
