SPICE serves diverse learning needs and keeps families together. For many years there has been a void in Catholic school services to provide special education for all families. Now, SPICE students can thrive and participate fully in their faith while simultaneously getting an excellent and appropriate education. This can also provide a financial burden on families that cannot handle those additional SPICE expenses. In turn, we rely on our wonderful parent volunteer luncheon committee to host an annual luncheon fundraiser to help offset the costs of additional staff and services required to have SPICE at St. Laurence. We are the premier Catholic school in our region to offer such unique support. Although SPICE was not born here in Texas, many local schools look to us for guidance in supporting their own special needs students in Catholic schools. We are eternally grateful for the Ryan family of St. Catherine Parish in Columbus, Ohio, who founded SPICE over a decade ago. We were fortunate to host them as our guest speakers at our luncheon in 2014. Read more about it in the Texas Catholic Herald.
