PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Getting Closer
We are getting closer to the end of the year, although the weather doesn’t feel like spring. There are mixed student emotions circulating GRE - both excitement of summer and sadness of a year coming to a close. As we approach the last month of school, students can feel those emotions juxtaposed with one another. We can use your help to navigate supporting them.
The end of the year is filled with special events and schedule changes. This can increase excitement, but also cause anxiety or sometimes temporary amnesia of kindness. Teachers are talking to students about how it is okay to be excited, but it is also important to regulate emotions in order to be kind to others and follow general school rules. Ask your child about any special events that are coming up and how they feel about them. Talk about what kindness looks like and feels like during that event, and the rest of the year for that matter.
Summer allows for so much flexibility with schedule and activities. It is a much needed down time for kids. However, sometimes the reduced structure can be difficult for them. Begin to think about a schedule or routine that will help them exercise their mind and body every day. Each day at school, we force students to be creative, innovative, and think critically. The summer can allow them the flexibility to practice that on their own; however, they need opportunities to do that. Consider finding some camps or clubs that will help them apply those skills. Create a summer activities checklist to do as a family, including simple tasks like building a fort (inside and outside), reading in a special place, making up a game, raising money for a charity. These are some examples that stretch students’ minds but allow them to take ownership of them.
We have four weeks, but I know they will go fast. We are celebrating another great year, while also planning for next year. We will enjoy our last month with our fifth graders, while also planning to welcome new students redistricted from Depp. We will celebrate our accomplishments and growth this year, while also setting new goals and build upon what we learned this year. We will take this last month to glance in our rearview mirror and appreciate where we have come, but then continue to look through the front windshield toward where we are going. Have a great May!

GRE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank You Volunteers!
"The impact you have now is counted in smiles today, but measured in memories tomorrow."
Thank you to all those that volunteered or contributed in some capacity to support the staff, students, and school community of GRE. Families contribute and volunteer in a variety of ways and we appreciate you.
We were able to celebrate our volunteers in our whole school event. Every student and staff member contributed in some capacity to the event. Students sang, read poems, created decorations, escorted parents, wrote letters, and more as a way to show our sincere appreciation.
Even if you were not able to attend the event, we appreciate you! Whether you donate time, money, resources, or support in another capacity, we LOVE collaboratively working with you to support our children.

• Volunteer to help with a class party or other one time events
• Sell tickets at a school event (athletics, drama, etc.)
• Volunteer in the office
• Make copies or perform duties/special projects for the school
