Inspiring Parents

Parents learned a bit during last Wednesday’s Inspiring Parents webcast which asked the questions: Am I Doing Enough? Am I Doing This Right?. The session was recorded. It helps a lot if you click on the link below which automatically collects your email into a spreadsheet which makes it easier to respond to the hundreds of requests for the link to the webcast recording and resources.

Inspiring Parents meets the first Wednesday of each month from 1-2 where homeschooling parents can learn tips to grow their teaching toolkit. On February 5, we focus on writing.

Field Trip Tip

It can be difficult to remember the dates and times of field trips we've booked, but you can find all the details on Inspiration Station by following these steps:

1. Log in to and you will see “Hi (your name)” on the top right, with a little drop down arrow next to it. *Tip: if you're on your phone, just turn it horizontally and this will show.

2. Press the arrow and it will offer the option of viewing “My Account.”

3. Click on "My Account" and it will list all of the field trips you have signed up for. This includes all the links to the pages where you signed up, so you can find the lead teacher's name, email address and phone number!

Orange County History Day - Natural History Day

Each year NHD frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for its broad application to world, national or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The theme for 2020 is Breaking Barriers in History. The theme provides a focused way to increase students’ historical understanding and an opportunity to develop perspective and understanding rather than merely being able to cite facts and figures. Through participation in this program, students in grades 4-12 become amateur historians on their journey to discover the significance of their chosen historical topic.

Homeschooling Advice

How To Empower Children When They Struggle

"Imagine you’re lifting weights at the gym. At the first sign of struggle or strain, a well-meaning bystander lifts the weight for you. Every time.

Are you going to get any stronger? Will you ever discover just how strong you can be? No matter how pure our intentions, the same concept applies when we refuse to let our children struggle.

If we always solve problems for our children, they will never learn to solve problems themselves. We imply that they are not capable of overcoming obstacles or succeeding on their own, which conditions them to give up at the first sign of difficulty."

I have three children who are 2, 6 and 8 years old, and I was previously a high school math teacher. Four years ago, our family chose the path of homeschooling and we have enjoyed it ever since! I am passionate about helping families navigate their way on their exciting homeschooling journey, and connecting individuals to build a community!

Shaemanique King - OC Family Liaison

I am a mom of four children, ranging in ages from 8 years to 6 months, and have homeschooled for the past four years.
