Casa Willow
Children's House (33 months - Kindergarten)
Our Casa Willow Staff
Welcome, March!
Dear Casa Willow parents,
As beautiful as winter is and as fun as it is to play in the snow, we sure are ecstatic that we are just two weeks away from SPRING'S ARRIVAL! Before long, we will begin planting seeds, observing the return of many migrants as they come back to Minnesota, and seeing new life sprout up all over!
WELCOME, TAMMY!
We are pleased to welcome Tammy, an intern from the Montessori Center of Minnesota in St. Paul! Tammy will be with us until March 15th. She joins us in preparation for her upcoming exams as she trains to be an AMI Montessori guide. The children are eagerly waiting for their chance to work with Tammy and receive presentations from her. We will introduce her to those of you who drop off or pick up in Casa Willow. For those of you who drop off or pick up in the Treehouse, feel free to stop in, say hello and meet Tammy anytime!
CONFERENCE SIGN-UP
A big thank you goes out to all of you who have signed up to meet with us in just a few weeks! A few days prior to your conference, we will send home your child's evaluation for you to read and reference when we meet. We look forward to discussing your child's progress with you this far. If you haven't had a chance to sign up yet, please refer to the Sign-Up Genius sent out via email on February 14th to claim your spot!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
This month we celebrated many birthdays! Science experiments became the new birthday celebration craze!
Ryan: Flower Experiment; the children were able to see how plants absorb water by placing white flowers in colored water. As the flowers absorbed the water, the color of the petals changed.
Paige: Ice Experiment; what happens to water when it gets very very cold? We filled balloons with water and food coloring, placed them in the freezer, and then checked on them once they had frozen. Now we have colorful ice decorations right outside our Casa window. One child kept saying how "amazing" they were!
Ruby: The importance of calcium for our bones. The children had fun feeling how strong chicken bones were... many of them even tried to break the bones, but to no avail! Next, the bones were soaked in acid (vinegar) and were revisited four days later, when they were soft and malleable. We had a great discussion about foods that were calcium-rich and foods that were acidic and the importance of choosing a healthy balance of each. Since the experiment, it has been so fun to overhear conversations among the children as they discuss the calcium vs acidic foods in their lunches! The children walked away with a good understanding of how calcium-rich foods support our bone health.
NECKLACE REMINDER
A gentle reminder that the children cannot wear necklaces to school, per our licensing regulations. We thank you for helping us make sure the children are safe at school!
