A NOTE FROM DR. HITCHMAN:
Hello Lightridge families and friends. I hope you and your family are healthy and doing well. While the start of this school year is not going to be what we had hoped for or imagined, I would like to thank our students, families, community members, and staff for participating in our virtual forums and meetings during the summer. We had over 80 participants attend each of our student forums during the month of July. It is wonderful to see our students' faces and listen to their input and suggestions as we are in the final stages of our journey towards opening Lightridge High School.
Currently the building is a buzz of activity. Classroom and office furniture is arriving on a daily basis. Band instruments, athletic equipment, and other furnishings are being tagged and stored until our students can use them. Not only have we organized our Lightridge Athletic Booster Club (LABC) and our Lightridge Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO), but we have also held elections for our executive board positions. I encourage you to consider supporting our LABC and PTSO by volunteering to serve on committees and responding to surveys they may send electronically.
The best way to keep current on what is occurring at Lightridge is our school website, which lists not only our student clubs and activities but also our staff sponsors. We continue to add pictures and have a calendar of events page. As we move into August, we will inform students and families of events such as open houses and back-to-school nights. While these activities will unfortunately be virtual this year, we are hopeful and optimistic that we will be able to celebrate the opening of Lightridge High School in-person when it is deemed safe to do so. We appreciate your continued support of Lightridge High School and the programs we offer to our students. As always, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and have a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ryan Hitchman

At this time we are still practicing social distancing per LCPS guidelines and will largely be working remotely, therefore the best way to reach us is via email.
The administrative staff is still working on planning master schedule with the new guidelines given by LCPS. Our current plan is to activate schedules the end of August.
We are also currently planning virtual programs for parents and students for the start of school - stay tuned as many details will be coming your way soon!!!
2020-2021 Bell Schedule
The Department of Instruction is still working through what the distance learning bell schedule will look like for the upcoming school year. Once we receive information it will be rolled out to you!
Orientation
We are currently planning orientation and teacher meet & greets. These will likely be done virtually as guidance now does not permit us to bring anyone into the building. There will be a separate email that goes out later in August with all important start of school dates.

Check out the Lightridge Clubs and Activities page. This list is not complete and we will be updating it regularly.
If there is a club you are interested in that is not yet on the website, reach out to our Activities Coordinator - Mr. Carr. He will be providing information soon about how to start a club.
Marching Band Moved to Spring
With new information we are going to move the marching season to Spring 2021.
This is based on three main factors: 1. Student Safety, 2. LCPS’s switch to 100% distance learning, 3. Virginia High School League (VHSL) moved fall sports to the February – May time frame.
- The condensed season will have 3 - 4 home football games
- 3 competitions – April 10, 17 & 24
- 4 Days of Band Camp: March 27, 29, 30, and 31 (first part of Spring Break)
- 2-3 rehearsals a week after school starting Feb. 15 thru the end of April
We will end the season at the end of April so that students can participate in the new 2021 Spring Sports Season set by VHSL. It will also give a break before AP exams for our students in AP classes. With our February start time, students would be able to participate in Winter Sports.
