BIS Newsletter Week 6 Term 4

Friday 26th November

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora e te whānau,

You will have heard that the government has announced that Auckland will move to the new traffic light system for alert levels on December 3rd. Schools have been advised to continue to deliver schooling to their communities in the same manner that we are currently running.

This means that schooling will continue in the same part time onsite manner for all students except those in the full time bubble. Online learning will continue for all for the days at home. The remainder of the school year will continue in the same way as the last week as run.

We are making decisions based on the health and well being of all students. The part time system is working well as a method for ensuring social skills and connection to others is happening for two days but in a very managed way. Students have been amazing with their compliance of mask wearing and social distancing. The two days onsite are exhausting due to the mask wearing and the length of time that students have had away from school.

Thank you all for the continued support of our systems.

Ngā mihi nui,

JoAnne

Film Makers Win Big

We were very pleased to have a trophy, certificates and $300 dropped off to school on Wednesday with a letter confirming that we were winners of the KPat Short Shorts Film Making Competition.

We entered two films into this competition and the winning film was called The Butterfly Effect. We will be sharing both films on our website and will get photos of the winning film makers with their trophy.

Upcoming Events - Important

Prize Giving on Wednesday 15 December

This will be the final day of the year and we would like to have all students who are well to be onsite for our final farewell assembly. It will be run slightly differently this year.

We would like all students to be in their classroom with their whānau teacher. They will all get their end of year report and year book. Year 8 students will get their graduation certificate and year 7 students will receive class confirmation and stationery lists for 2022.

We will invite the students who are receiving a trophy or special prize to be in the hall with one member of their family. Invites will be sent via email next week.

All students who receive any award will come to the hall and be filmed getting their prize. We will live stream this event so that family at home can watch.

School will finish at 11.30am and we will do a staggered exit to ensure social distancing.

2022 New Staff

We are pleased to announce that we have recently appointed a new Aotearoa Histories Curriculum teacher for 2022. Hone Matthews is local and has a wide range of teaching experience on the Shore and over the bridge. He is a fluent speaker of te reo Māori and passionate about sharing the history of our whenua with the students at our school. He will teach all classes across the school as well as having his our whānau class. He will be in whānau 20 next year which will comprise of students from Miss Young's current class and new year 7 students. This is a slight change to what I had shared a few weeks back.

Mr Fowles will now be taking over teaching the current students in whānau 4. He has been working with them onsite and has already formed some good relationships with this group of students. Mrs Hedges will still be involved with whānau 4 but she will not have her own class next year due to her taking a lead role in working with students across the school to raise achievement in literacy.

Drink bottles, sun screen and hats

Please ensure that your child has a large bottle of water each day and good sun protection. Our drink fountains are closed so it is important that students have their own supply of water.
