Curriculum Update
Principal Leadership Meeting - Feb. 12, 2019
English Language Arts & Reading
The window was January 21 - February 1. Teachers should have finished recording their results into the F&P Inventory in Eduphoria. The last day to enter the F&P data into Eduphoria will be February 15. Please let Marta Salazar know if you have any issues with entering data.
Unit Assessments:
Unit 4B for grades 3 - 8 should be administered by the end of next week Friday, February 22nd.
Unit 4: for grades 2, 9, 10, 11, 12 should also be administered by February 22nd.
Benchmark Results: Analyze the test with students and go over questions where large majority of kids went to a particular wrong answer. Get kids to explain their thinking - discuss answer choices. Use the STAAR Rationales from TEA website to help with planning intervention. Remember to target SE's that are the most frequently tested as per the Lead4Ward Frequency Distribution charts. Marta Salazar will be making visits to meet with teachers to discuss data and help with intervention plans this week.
STAAR Dictionary Policy: Dictionaries must be available to all students taking the following:
- STAAR grades 3–8 reading tests;
- STAAR grades 4 and 7 writing tests;
- STAAR Spanish grades 3–5 reading tests;
- STAAR Spanish grade 4 writing test; and
- STAAR English I, English II, and English III tests
While students are working through the tests listed above, they must have access to a dictionary. Students should use the same type of dictionary they routinely use during classroom instruction and classroom testing to the extent allowable. Additional sections in the dictionary (e.g., abbreviations, biographical or geographical entries, style or grammar guides) do not have to be restricted as they are also a part of the dictionary used routinely during classroom instruction.
The minimum number of dictionaries a school must provide is one dictionary for every five students testing, but the state’s recommendation is one for every three students or, optimally, one for each student.
