Greetings from the Grady Career Consultant
I hope mid-terms went well for everyone who had them, and that you're all ready for Homecoming this weekend!
If you have time, stop by Internship Insider, our peer networking event for Grady and pre-Grady students later this afternoon. There are a lot of other events happening within the next few weeks as well, so be sure to check out the info below!
If you have any questions, please let me know!
TODAY: Internship Insider
Wednesday, Oct. 14
MLC, 4th Floor Rotunda
Drop in for some quick chats with Grady students in this peer-to-peer networking event that connects current Grady students with newly admitted and Pre-Journalism students to discuss internship opportunities and student organization involvement. In a career fair set up, Insiders will represent their current/past internship sites and be prepared to share stories about their experience, successes and challenges, and how to get connected with internship opportunities. Other Insiders in attendance will also share their experiences in Grady College student organizations. This is a great opportunity for all Grady and pre-Grady students to network with peers and learn about ways to get experience both on and off campus.

Career Development Spotlight: Networking Follow-up
Since we've been talking about networking the past few weeks, it's important to remember to follow up after meeting someone, whether that's from a classroom presentation or a Grady/networking mixer.
Always try to get contact information (a business card) from the people you meet, and follow up within a day or two. Mention where you met, thank them for talking with you and remind them of something specific from your conversation to jog their memory. Feel free to add them on LinkedIn after sending the email so they can also see your picture, and include a quick personalized connection message.
A great way to follow up on networking and maintain a connection is to include something that requires an action, such as a response to a question. For example, you may ask them when their internship applications will open if you can't find that online, or ask the best way to set up an informational interview with their company or organization.
For more info on informational interviews, check out our Career Guide. As always, follow up with me for any questions you may have!
