The K12 Engaged Connector
Super info & resources for Family Engagement Coordinators
September 1, 2015 Vol. 1/No. 4
Happy September!
While some of you have begun, others are just watching their schools kick-off the 2015-2016 school year!
Wahooo!
(Think that word as Miss Frizzle from Magic School Bus would yodel it, ok?)
I know you're busy.
I know you have tons of stuff to read.
I hope you can take 5-10 minutes to read, view, share and take part in the content below. There's always something to share and learn and while you're trying to engage your families, I'm here to engage you. Let me support you.
Thanks.

Embracing the Success of the Almost-Failure
Who are we working for? Why do we do what we do? What message do we share?
"Success motivates us, but a near-win can propel us forward in an ongoing quest."
This video speaks to success and possibilities...and to the sort of thing that we want our families to know and understand about the good that comes of imperfection.
Looking for a little inspiration? Take a few minutes to watch.

7 Ways to Enhance Your Webinar Promotions
ON24 Inc. is a presentation marketing company that often sends out some great resources for free. I love getting them because I either A) learn something new, B) feel validated in what I already know or C) discover something that, by changing, I can improve my own work. Today, I received a PDF about 7 Ways to Enhance Your Webinar Promotions that had some stellar and refreshing information that I wanted to share. Click this LINK to go right to the PDF in the Engaged Connector File in Drive. Enjoy...and do let me know what you think about the resources that I'm sharing.
A Thought
I spend some time each day reading education journals and documents, hunting for resources that can help you and me, and searching for things that will matter to engagement, community and especially, our families.
Today I spent some time reading a rather long, unwieldy article that FINALLY came to the point...and perhaps the most pertinent suggestion for educators and, indeed for all of us.
It's so easy to become discouraged, to hear the squeak of the wheels around us, and nothing else. We can, after some quantity of time, find ourselves hearing only that.
So, here's the gist...what if... what IF...we each spent 5 minutes a day talking about what's going right?
What kind of positivity could we spread if we did that?
Start today... with ONE minute of positive talk about what's going RIGHT.
See what happens.

Question... & Answer!
"What about National Community and Family Support Meetings that you used to hold?"
This is a great question, and in the scope of the changes with the old National Community and Family Support Team and the creation of the National FAST team, changes with this meeting are in the works. We hope to hold one meeting per month and wrap it into the FAST program meetings. It's important that we find a way to include the non-FAST Pilot schools in the sharing of the information.
If you were an attendee at the National Communities meetings in the past, I'd love to hear what it was about those meetings that you found valuable and enjoyed. So many have said that they missed having them that we want to continue with the important parts.
Drop me a quick email and let me know what you think.
Thanks.

A Tool to Share
Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to your own desktop to use as you wish.

We may be involved in ENGAGEMENT...but often the most engaging thing we do is ENCOURAGE! Check out this video about Praising the Process and Growth Mindset. (6 minutes)
Think about how this teaching technique can carry over into what we do!
