Happy February!

We have a lot of wonderful things planned for this month! Be sure to read over the newsletter carefully, so that you don't miss anything! Also stay tuned for details about our upcoming READING PATROL on March 2!

As always, please let us know what we can do for you and your students! We are here to help!

Makerspace Moments

Makerspace Moments is a time for students to create, explore, and learn. Each month our Makerspace has a Spotlight Activity...the February Spotlight Activity is the LEGO CHALLENGE!

Makerspace Moments are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:30pm in the Learning Commons! You can send students in small groups, or we can schedule a whole class visit - just let me know what you would like to do!

World Read Aloud Day - February 16

World Read Aloud Day is Thursday, February 16 and to celebrate, we are hosting an all day READ-A-THON in the Learning Commons! Our goal is for there to be students and teachers reading aloud ALL DAY LONG. Please visit this link to sign up for a time to bring your class: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GrBN5kuABe9a_DM0d_0Oans8tDb4KQ59N4hTLM9L6RI/edit?usp=sharing

You can buddy up with another class and have students read to each other (older grade levels should partner with younger grade levels) OR you can sign up to have a guest reader read to your class in the Learning Commons! You can learn more about World Read Aloud Day here: http://www.litworld.org/wrad/

Digital Learning Day - February 23

Digital Learning Day is Thursday, February 23 and we are doing things a little different this year! Each grade level will have an activity where students will learn and explore a different aspect of technology! Please click this link to view the schedule: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qLf6jICqLyVm_oEcWUrNCbuHokK3pqqtMFBabd5dw5U/edit?usp=sharing

We are looking forward to an awesome day of learning! In the past, this has also been a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Day - we leave that up to you this year! Please let us know if you have any questions!

READING PATROL!

Our 2nd ever READING PATROL will be taking place on Thursday, March 2 from 6pm - 8pm. This is an event where we travel to student homes to "catch them reading!" We will be doing this on Dr. Seuss' birthday! Details COMING SOON!

Computer Lab Corner!

During the month of February, review Word Processing and Spreadsheets with your students during your Computer Lab teaching time!

Word Processing - Use MS Word or Google Docs!
Skills to teach or review include: opening, saving, closing, entering text, formatting toolbar, inserting image, etc. as applicable to your grade level.
Attached is an example of a Valentine MS Word document (You Are Special). Your students can type a paragraph and give it to someone they feel is special during February!

Spreadsheets - Use MS Excel or Google Sheets.

Discuss terms such as spreadsheet, columns, rows, data, and graph.

Let your students practice creating a simple spreadsheet -- enter data and create a simple chart! (A spreadsheet is an application for organization, analysis, and storage of data.)

Attached is an example of a Valentine Heart Candy spreadsheet.

Your Learning Commons Team will be happy to help!

FYI! So far this school year, we have featured the following technology standards for computer lab instruction:

September - Digital Citizenship/Basic Login Skills/Keyboarding

October - Word Processing Month (MS Word or Google Docs)

November - Spreadsheet Month (MS Excel or Google Sheets)

December - Drawing Tool Month (MS Paint)

January - Presentation Month (MS PowerPoint or Google Slides)
