CES Happenings

We had our first live assembly this week with Joe Craven! Our students loved it! They learned that music is inside us, all around us, we just have to tap into it. They also learned that anything can become a musical instrument...an empty can, a bed pan, a wall, a cake pan--so watch out for some interesting music making to be happening at home!

A few things as we look ahead:

State testing continues this week for Third through Sixth Grade. Your student's teacher will let you know the dates. It is important to be sure your child is rested and in attendance. We appreciate your support in preparing your child.

Bike Rodeo is May 23rd at 3:00 PM. Students need to bring their bike and be accompanied by an adult. We are excited about our partnership with California Highway Patrol and Bodfish Bicycles that help us bring this event to our students.

Kid Appreciation Day will be returning this year. It will occur on Tuesday, June 7th. Kid Appreciation Day, is a newer version of Field Day, that brings together our student body in friendly, fun competitive as well as collaborative games. We have chosen to call it Kid Appreciation Day since it doesn't follow our "traditional" Field Day schedule of events. This day does have many of those wonderful elements that we all have loved about Field Day plus some new ones! We appreciate all our CES kids and their commitment to learning and making our school the wonderful place we all love. We are all looking forward to this day!

Also we will have all of our Lost and Found items out on the front lawn, next Friday, May 20th for students to claim. We have four HUGE bags full so be ready to take a look when you pick up your child.

Gratefully,

Mrs. Fischer and Ms. Crowther

Safety

For everyone's safety, if you need to pick up your child from the Expanded Learning Program, from practice, or from the back of the school-please park and pick up.

To keep everyone safe, we need to avoid driving cars and turning around on the playground blacktop. Park outside the fence and walk back for pick ups.

We appreciate your support with keeping all of our kids safe.

Staff Spotlight: Paula Johnson

Paula Johnson, a Paraeducator, has been a part of the Chester Elementary School Team for 44 years. Paula has worked in many different roles over her tenure, but all her roles have one thing in common: She is able to work with kids and see how much they advance and grow. Paula says, "I love working with children and being part of each child's educational journey."

In her free time, Ms. Paula enjoys reading, playing games, walking, and spending time with her family and friends. She loves reading the Junie B. Jones series to her granddaughters and great granddaughters. Ms. Paula also likes to eat Mexican food and has a devotion to chocolate...she will eat it anytime, anywhere. Ms. Paula hopes to travel to Maine, where she is from originally, to visit her family and enjoy the fall colors. She also loves the color pink and dogs.

Masking Updates

We are grateful to be moving into this next phase of COVID mitigations as case rates and hospitalizations decline locally and statewide. Plumas County is not identified in the high-risk category and we will make the shift to masking as a choice for all stakeholders in K-12 settings.

The chart below will be located on each entrance of all sites to assist our stakeholders understanding of the current guidance.

Our schools continue to take collective actions, including maximizing ventilation, providing access to personal protective equipment as well as testing and vaccination opportunities. We will continue to work closely with our partners at Public Health and to provide our school leaders access to the most current guidance and information to guide decision-making. Additional information on State guidance can be found here.

As we move toward the end of another challenging school year we appreciate everyone’s patience and resilience.

Volunteers on Campus

Volunteers on campus

CES values our volunteers who help us so much. This year, in addition to the paperwork that volunteers complete we will be requiring

  • proof of vaccination

  • Or a weekly Covid test

  • and be fingerprinted (this can be done at the District Office in Quincy)

You are considered a volunteer if you come in consistently to assist at school in your child’s class. Field Trip drivers or parents that help for one event are not considered volunteers in this circumstance.

Testing will occur on campus once a week starting in early October but one can get a test result from anywhere convenient. The “quick test” AKA antigen will be the test provided at the school. At this time, over the counter tests will not be accepted.
