UPDATE: Students are no longer required to be vaccinated in order to participate.
Students in Grades 4-8 may register now to audition in-person or virtually for the 2022-23
The Salute to Music Program provides an opportunity for NYC public school students to receive FREE Saturday morning musical instruction along with peers within their boroughs. Ensembles include borough-based Concert Bands (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island), Orchestras (Bronx, Queens), Choruses (Brooklyn, Queens) and a Citywide Jazz ensemble which meets in Brooklyn. Each ensemble site will prepare and present a culminating concert in the spring.
Click here for the Program Overview document which includes the links for students to register online for auditions, audition locations and the audition requirements for each ensemble.
Auditions are open to all New York City Department of Education public school students in Grades 4-8 who have completed at least one year of instrumental or choral instruction and are recommended by the instrumental or choral music teacher, principal, or guidance counselor to participate. Students who demonstrate proficient skill will be accepted into the appropriate Borough-Wide ensemble. Participation in a Junior Ensemble may be available for students who have completed at least one year of instrumental study and show promise of acquiring the skills necessary for advancement.
