Spanish society in 19th century

Economic and social transformations were very slowly.

Enconomy and industrialisation

Industrial Revolution was late and slow only arrived in : Basque Country , Catalonia and the large cities.

Most of the population still worked with underdeveloped technology , like England and Germany.

Modern forms of transport,railway , didn't appear until the second half of the century.


The upper class,bourgeoisie became rich and also became the dominant class.

The Industrial Revolution brought serious social problems,as harsh working conditions and child exploitation in factories.In rural areas the peasents lived in extreme poverty.Were the reason for the political demands.


At the beginning of the century,this style reflected the revolutionary atmosphere and faraway places.


In the middle of the century,writers and painters decided to show the most disadvanget aspects of the industrial society.


At the end of the century painters were influeced by technological advances.

Several researches achieved scientific advances.Ramón y Cajal recived the first Nobel Prize of Science.
