Updates for the Coming School Year
On our website you will find a link to our complete school pandemic plan by the end of next week, but here is a brief summary of the main components as of today. If any changes occur between now and the start of school, all Riverglen families will be notified.
At Riverglen we will continue to:
Focus on hand-sanitizing/hand-washing
Disinfect surfaces frequently
Follow district protocols for overall illness procedures
Continue to train and educate staff, students, and parents on key safety practices
Athletics - continue to follow District and SIC guidelines
Changes at Riverglen from last year:
Face coverings encouraged for all unvaccinated students, staff and visitors
Face coverings optional for vaccinated students, staff, and visitors
Gathering requirements eased (assemblies and dances can resume)
Return to pre-pandemic visitor protocols
Consider field trips on a case by case basis
- Lockers: At the end of last year, I polled the students on their thoughts on lockers versus carrying their backpacks. As you may recall, we did not use lockers last year under the pandemic plan. The overwhelming response from the kids was that they would like to have lockers be OPTIONAL. Their thoughts were that lockers could come in handy for storing coats or sporting equipment as needed, but with the requirement that they bring their binders and computers to every class, being able to use a bag to carry it around through the day was easier. They also felt like it cut down on tardies. After hearing their input, I decided that we all will be assigned each. students a locker, but they get to choose if they want to use it or not, and students will be allowed to carry their backpacks throughout the day.
2021-2022 Registration Day
If you are getting this newsletter, it means your student(s) are already registered and have classes assigned for this coming school year. However, we still want to hold an in-person event. Think of it as a Riverglen Sneak Peek. On that day your student can:
- pick up their schedule (they are also available that day through Infinite Campus)
- try out their locker (if they plan to use one)
- turns in medical forms and any paperwork not already submitted or completed on-line
- check out school devices if needed (all 7th graders and new to district students), fill out the BSD Responsible Use form, and opt into or out of the $25 Device Deposit agreement in case of damage.
- gather information regarding extracurricular opportunities at Riverglen
- order spirit wear
The schedule is as follows:
9th graders- 8:00-9:30
8th graders- 10:00-11:30
7th Graders- 1:00-2:30
It is an open time slot, so come anytime in the window that you can make it. If you have two students at different grade levels you can pick one window that will work for you and bring multiple students the one time. If for any reason you can not attend, the school will be open from 8:30 am-11:30 am and 12:30 pm-2:30 pm each day beginning August 2nd.

Dress Code Reminder
The schools in the Boise District are charged with establishing a school culture that enhances the teaching-learning process. The need for some sense of structure and formality in educational settings requires that student behavior and attire are compatible with the stated purpose and function of the educational institution. Below is the section of BSD board policy that helps us guide our schools dress code parameters.
Inappropriate attire is defined as attire, which creates an atmosphere or casualness, which detracts from our mission. It is further defined as dressing or grooming in a manner that disrupts the educational process, is a threat to the learning environment or endangers the health or safety of students or any other persons.
At Riverglen:
No attire should be worn that advocates alcohol, tobacco products, drugs, gangs, etc. As you shop, be aware that there are a lot of hidden drug references on certain brands of clothing. Check out the list below for your reference.
Head coverings of any kind aare not to be worn at school unless authorized by administration.
No bare midriffs, barebacks, showing of underwear (including bra straps), off the shoulder or halter tops, pajamas and slippers, etc.
Shorts and skirts must reach past fingertip length with arms fully extended.
Tights or leg coverings of some sort must be worn under any pants that have holes/rips above the fingertip length requirement for shorts and skirts.
No costumes, capes pajamas, or slippers except on dress-up spirit days when appropriate.
