Unit Objectives:
Lesson A:
Describe a painting
talk about different museums in Paris and the types of art they showcase.
Lesson B:
Say that you are lost and ask for and give directions.
Talk about famous neighborhoods of Paris
Lesson C:
Ask about transportation
Say what means of transportation you are taking
Talk about tourist bureaus, the RER.
Talk about the palace of Versailles

Lesson B
Ask for help, respond to a request for help, and ask someone to pass me something.
Talk about French cuisine and a famous cooking school.
Lesson C
Express what I can’t keep for myself from doing, say someone is right, and ask what someone is talking about .
Talk about dining etiquette in France.

First-grade students at a Virginia elementary school are learning French as a second language starting this year. The language was chosen by students at the school, the first one in the district to teach a language other than Spanish for its dual-language program.

The number of French speakers has increased by 25% from about 220 million in 2010 to
274 million in 2014. The number of French speakers in the world has tripled over the last fifty years.
French is the means of communication of over a quarter of a billion people in Africa, where it is the official language of 18 countries. By 2050, it is expected that partially thanks to the rising of the population of French-speaking Africa, the world’s francophone population will rise dramatically to 770,000,000 people, or 8% of the world’s population. (Org. Internationale de la Francophonie) At that point, French will be the 3rd most spoken language in the world!
