A Principal's Perspective
This week, I attended the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership Breakfast where the speaker had some words of wisdom to share with our high school juniors in the Brazos Valley. The speaker, Dr. Michael E. Workman, a leader in industrial engineering and a professor emeritus at Texas A&M, provided his thoughts on leadership to the audience of community leaders, parents and students. It hit home with me when thinking about our work as a faculty. So, he began by quoting Alice in Wonderland: "How you get there is where you'll arrive." This made me think of our journey as we begin this semester. Our work, our purpose, our instructional impact, our relationships with students and colleagues-our journey-will collectively define our school year. Will our students arrive successfully? Dr. Workman also reminded us that we only have one shot to be the best. What will be our best in 2016? When we reflect upon our year in the summer, will the story be a success story for our students? A final thought for the talk that really can be applied to our professional career and life in general. Dr. Workman challenged the students: "Don't die with your music still in you!" Hopefully as we anticipate the spring 2016 school year, we can give it our best, our all, to ensure our students "arrive" successful and ready!
