A Message from Your Principal
Running a school is a minute-by-minute endeavor performed hour by hour, day by day, and week by week, from the minute students come through the doors in August until we see them off at the end of the school year in May.
Teachers, administrators, parents, guardians, advocates, school psychologists, counselors, health assistants, school administrative assistants, and others create a team that continues to pursue success for each student at Hillside. School years tend to have their own rhythm, and daily success is dictated by the success or failure of the adults who are acting as a team in the best interest of each child. There is no magic involved in creating a successful school year for any and every child; there are only the faith and the efforts of a team that comes together to support and to respond to each student. It is incredible to me how much power is in belief. Parents and guardians, being able to trust your Hillside team is an important part of the success of your child/ren in school.
We are here for students. They are our business and our mission and our life’s work. We believe in the possibility of success for each and every student that comes through the doors of our school. Your Hillside team is here for you, and no part of that team is less important than any other. We are here every day giving it all we’ve got; our hope is always that each family will join us in that endeavor. Our kids deserve nothing less than everything our collective belief can deliver. If you need anything, please reach out to your student’s teacher or a teacher on your team or to Mrs. Bailey or Mrs. McGuire. We are here for you.
-Mrs. Bailey

February 27-March 3 is Read Across America Week!
Read Across America Week
Hillside Families,
This year, for Read Across America Week, Hillside classrooms will spend one of the days reading fairytales from around the world. We have many families and students from different places in the world and we want your help choosing some of these stories! If you have a recommendation of a fairytale you would like your child’s class to read, please send in the book C/O Holly Smith or e-mail Holly Smith at smith.holly@westside66.net to share your idea. Read Across America Week at Hillside will begin February 27, so please have your books or ideas sent by Monday, February 20th.
PBiS at Hillside and the Skill of the Week
Hillside emphasizes the "3-Be's"
BE SAFE
BE RESPECTFUL
BE RESPONSIBLE
We want all students to know how to be safe, respectful, and responsible, not only while at school, but in their life!
The Skill of the Week for 2/13 - 2/17/23 is:
Making an Apology
When you make an apology, you:
- Look at the person
- Use a serious and sincere voice
- Say, "I'm sorry for..." or "I want to apologize for..."
- Explain how you plan to do better in the future
- Say, "Thanks for listening."
We will be working on the above skill all week!
