Class of 2017 Votes on Graduation Location
Dr. Mason recently met with the Class of 2017 over a two-day period regarding their preference of the graduation ceremony location on Friday, June 2, 2017.
117 Charleroi Area students are currently on track to graduate on this date.
They discussed the pros and cons of each location. After a lengthy debate, students voted on Tuesday, September 13. The results are as follows:
Outside location
Athletic Stadium = 91
Amphitheatre = 10
Inside location in case of inclement weather
Auditorium = 74
Gymnasium = 25
Dr. Mason will discuss this with you in more detail at the Education meeting on September 20th.

Student Project with Model Cleaners
We have a new class taught by Ms. Tawni Wilson at the High School this year that will be partnering with local businesses to solve real world problems. On Wednesday, September 14th our students toured model cleaners with a class from Albert Gallatin School District.
Meeting Overview
John LaCarte provided the group with an overview of the company as well as information on the marketing programs they are currently using to promote their home pickup and delivery offerings. In addition, he discussed the need for an increase of awareness of Model Cleaners within Social Media.
Discussion points:
What will be the focus of the student project?
New look for the hangar to be used for the PU and Delivery service
Developing a new look for this service for branding purposes
Creating a social media package to market the service with the goal of increasing the customer base within the company’s radius
How to market the use of the Green Space (environmentally safe cleaning products) to a specific demographic
The students will need to complete extensive research on all aspects of this expansion including demographics, economics, competition, etc.
Additional topics that were discussed:
- Could the students develop a tracking system to alert the customers when the items are being picked up and delivered?
- A tracking device to assist the truck drivers for the exact location of the houses
CHARLEROI DAY OF HOPE
A LETTER FROM GREG ANDERS:
We are just a week away. Just sending out a reminder about our last Day of Hope meeting. It will be at 7pm Monday, Sept 12th at CityReach Church Charleroi. 1006 Fallowfield Ave. We are asking for everybody to be there. All organizations only need to send one representative to receive the last detailed instructions about Saturday and to pick up any shirts they ordered. If your organization or church wants to wear their own shirts, you are able to do so. There are some organizations that have people that are volunteering in general and in certain zones. These volunteers, we want them to attend Monday. That way they can meet the team leader and have an idea of what they will be doing during the outreach. Monday evening , we will have the organizations and the volunteers get together in their teams to meet their team leader. At this time, the team leaders will let you know what to expect. We have 250 volunteers and 1,000 people registered at this point with registrations coming in at 75-100 people a day. Last year, half of our people who attended either did not pre-register or registered in the last week. There is a chance we could exceed our expectations. See you Monday!

State Budget News
General Fund Revenue:
According to the PA Department of Revenue,
Pennsylvania collected $2 billion in General Fund revenue in August,
which was $73.4 million, or 3.5 percent, less than anticipated.
In the Fiscal year-to-date General Fund collections total $4 billion, which is $73.6
million, or 1.8 percent, below estimate
Student Mental Health
According to NPR, up to one in five kids
living in the U.S. shows signs or symptoms of a mental health disorder
in a given year.
So in a school classroom of 25 students, five of them
may be struggling with the same issues many adults deal with: depression,
anxiety, substance abuse. And yet most children — nearly 80
percent — who need mental health services won't get them.
Whether treated or not, the children do go to school. And the problems they
face can tie into major problems found in schools: chronic absence,
low achievement, disruptive behavior and dropping out.
2015 PSSA Results:
Preliminary statewide results of last year’s assessment
data indicate that more students scored proficient and advanced
in 2015 in nearly all categories of English Language Arts and
Math testing. Although some math scores continued to lag, generally
math scores were the highest they have been in five years.
