Administrator Support for Science Instruction
Science instruction is changing as research has shown that students learn and understand science concepts more deeply when they become scientists in the classroom.
Learn the reasons for this shift in science instruction and see how it fits within your building or district. We will also explore how quality science instructional practices fit into your district's evaluation rubric.
8:00 am - 11:00 am
Chemistry Teacher Network
Over the course of the year, there will be opportunities to develop curriculum and lesson plans that can be used within your classroom; to ask questions and go on guided tours of some of our local chemistry companies; and to problem solve some of the concerns that chemistry teachers face in their day-to-day work.
Meetings will be hosted at businesses, local districts, and LISD throughout the year. You can sign up for any of the following dates that are convenient for your schedule.

Elementary Science Teacher Leader Network
Elementary teachers have so many content areas to focus on. Join us for monthly meetings as we focus on a particular challenge in teaching science at the elementary level.
- The focus is to bring teachers together in discussion around best research-based practices.
- Teachers will be able to develop the skills and resources they need to bring effective science instruction into their own classrooms.
Sign up for the whole series, or choose the specific content areas that interest you. 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
- October 23, 2017- What is Science?
- November 29, 2017 - Documenting Student Learning through KLEWS Charts, Summary Tables & Notebooks

NGSx
This series will explore the Next Generation Science Exemplar. NGSX is a new kind of PD environment. It is a web-based system designed to engage learners in the three major dimensions of the National Research Council's Framework for K-12 Science Education:
- Core ideas of science
- Scientific and engineering practices
- The crosscutting concepts
At the same time, NGSX participants are engaged with student performance expectations found in the Next Generation Science Standards.
Participants should be prepared to attend all sessions of the series.
8:00 am - 3:30 pm
- October 11, 2017
- October 17, 2017
