Bobcat Broadcast
April 3, 2020
A Message from Mrs. Caudill
I cried yesterday. When Governor Whitmer announced the closing of school buildings for the remainder of the school year, I cried. A school-year shouldn't end like this. It should end with laughter, popsicles and a fifth-grade clap out. It should end with hugs.
But, we cannot dwell on the what should be, we need to focus on the what is. We have been given lemons. If anyone can make a delicious pitcher of lemonade it's Northville teachers, students and parents.
The learning and connections I have seen in the last two weeks are AMAZING! From knock-knock jokes in kindergarten to prime factorization in fifth grade. I have enjoyed seeing teaching and learning through a new lens. I cannot wait to see what our future holds as we explore what we can do with distance learning.
Next week is our scheduled Spring Break. However, families can anticipate receiving a Weekly Home Learning Support plan for the week of April 6-10, 2020, our scheduled Spring Break, and are encouraged to utilize it in a manner that best meets the needs of their students/family. Please note that teachers will be preparing for the launch of our Distance Learning Instruction Plan, and therefore they may not be scheduling check-ins or meeting with students over Spring Break.
By Friday, April 10, 2020, students and families will receive a more detailed communication from the superintendent's office on the NPS Distance Learning Instruction plan, including details on what you and your child can expect to see from NPS staff, and the expectations for students at each level. As we navigate this new landscape, please know that we are mindful that students, families and staff may be dealing with illness, illness of family members or other extenuating circumstances while managing this new landscape. We will all need to keep this in mind as we strive to support learning, along with the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and families.
Thank you for your support and patience as we wade in these unknown waters. Despite everything, I am inspired by the ways in which our students, our staff, and our families have already come together to support one another. You are amazing Bobcats!
Stay Home. Stay Safe.
Devon Caudill

Supportive Art Needed from our Students
We had a request from Providence hospital that it sure would be nice to see some positive, uplifting springtime artwork from children hanging on their walls during such a difficult time. If your child would like to create happy, springtime art to cheer up health care providers and patients alike please also place those in the Medical Mask bin at any NPS elementary school. They will be picked up and taken to Providence Park. Once Providence Park is covered with happiness, additional drawings and art will be shared with nursing homes, and other Health Care Providers as well. Here is a great examples!

Northville Civic Concern Needs Our Continued Support
Hello, Amerman Bobcat Families:
We are writing today with an urgent request. Mrs. Parnin just spoke with Marlene at Northville Civic Concern, her organization needs our help! With many children home from school and many employees off from work, the need for food and household items is growing each day. We are writing to ask each Bobcat family to evaluate their own food and household supplies and consider donating to the Northville Civic Concern. Today we are asking that our Bobcat leaders consider an optional community service project by copying and pasting the note below or writing their own version of it with their own information and sending it out to your neighbors. If you do this project, please place a LARGE PLASTIC BIN on your porch and have your child make a sign that says, “For Civic Concern.” If you do send out the note, thank you ahead of time! The community thanks you, and we know our Bobcat leaders can make a difference. Feel free to share a picture of your child collecting items with us via email.
To drop food off at Civic Concern please see the address and drop-off times below. Feel free to call the office to see if Marlene or one of her amazing volunteers will be there to accept your donation. As long as they are open you are also welcome to call, let them know you are coming and leave your donations outside their building. If you’d rather just make a monetary donation, they can be made on the Civic Concern website.

Also, families can donate while respecting social distancing by dropping off donations to Door #5 at Ward Church (6 Mile and Haggerty) any time, any day of the week. https://ward.church/springbounty/
In addition, we recognize that some Amerman families may also find themselves in need due to unexpected income loss. In addition to Northville Civic Concern, https://northvillevolunteer.wixsite.com/civicconcern/need-help, Main Street League, https://www.mainstreetleague.com/, finds creative ways to help families in need.

My family will drop the items off at the Civic Concern office so we can help those people in need. Please click here if you’d like to learn more about Civic Concern. Thank you for your help and support!

April's Focus: Caring! Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw!
Every month Amerman Focuses on a new theme and Leader in Me Habit of the Month. The focus for the month of April is Caring and our Habit of the Month is Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Just because we are not at school doesn't mean we can't practice our Leader in Me Habits and our theme of the month.
Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual.
