IT'S A Marvelous Monday at JSE!
Good Evening, JSE Families,
Shhhh...Thursday is Talk Like A Pirate Day and the tradition at JSE continues as we have fun learning surprises in store for your kiddos! Students will be greeted by Captain Joe and Admiral Barnes to ye learning ship with music and Captain Joe's pirate bell! Captain Joe Krawczyk (JSE's Lead Custodian) will invite all to visit his pirate treasures. Through out the day Captain Joe and Admiral Barnes will read pirate themed books, share pirate lingo, and explain the areas of his pirate ship on the news.
As I visited classrooms last week, I am awed by the hard work of our students and staff and their eagerness to learn and teach. This year we continue our focus on having a growth mindset at our school. This approach to learning is shared through our 100% effort work cabinet, the JSE news program and our dialogue in the classroom. I have shared a video for you to watch and partner with us at home in yet another area of preparing our students for a successful future! What our kids watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ
and more information on the research for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWv1VdDeoRY
Many JSE memories will be created this week! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to celebrate literacy with your JSE family at Brownies and Books Thursday evening 6pm. Mrs. Barnes will kiss a pig, kids will "adpot" a free reading barnyard friend, our WHS football team will be here, and don't forget to get your picture with a beautiful horse named Ruger!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Barnes
Notes from our Home School Advisor Mrs. Morton:
Repeat: ILEARN in the Media
and you can access our State Superintendent, Dr. McCormick's comments on the ILEARN at this link: https://www.doe.in.gov/news
As you have likely heard the media buzzing with information regarding the results and rigor of the new ILEARN assessment, we want you to know our focus is always growth of the whole child, and we know our children are more than just one score from one test, and we will continue to give them opportunities to grow and realize success in all areas of their lives.
With that being said, I am proud to say on behalf of our schoolhouse and district, we scored in the top-15 districts in the state of Indiana and out performed the state average at every grade level! We preach a growth mindset and continuous improvement at our schoolhouse and we will follow this by utilizing ILEARN as another piece of information to inform our instruction to continue to achieve academic excellence.
4th and 5th grade Parents: Please remember to access your child's ILEARN reports through your Harmony Parent Portal. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or me at anytime.
Always Proud to Be a Bearcat!
